Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd cover) Lyrics

[Wyclef Jean]
Lets go
So so you think you can tell
heaven from hell
Blue skies from pain
Can you tell a green field
from a cold steel rail
A smile from a veil
do you think you can tell
Did they get you to trade
your heros for ghosts
Hot ashes for trees
Hot air for a cool breeze
Cold comfort for change
Did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
for a lead role in the cage

whether you listenin to hip hip-hop
or you tuning to rock
refugees on your box
we gonna take over ya blocks

lets go
How I wish, how I wish you were here
We're jus two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year
Runnin over the same old ground
What have we found the same old fears
Wish you were here

whether you listenin to rock
or pumpin the hip hip hop
refugees on your box

Critics don't mistake this for just any cover tune
I'ma take y'all to the dark side of the moon
Kickin in my moms room this song was just a thought
A young refugee labeled, jus come with a passport
Dad used to tell me about the American dream
My dream was waking up the projects
a young teen listening to hip hop
my brother tune me into rock
put me up on pink floyd and banned from the british blocks

whether you pumpin the hip hip hop
or you tuning to rock
refugees on your box
we gonna take over the blocks
from n.j to bk to the u.k

you guys are being pretty rough on wyclef and this cover. ive been a floyd fan far longer than ive known who wyclef is, and i honestly think its a good song. he didnt cover it exactly the way it was originally because its a cover...so if you dont like it, only listen to the original, but i like both.

pangea, i think you're reading TOO much into it. this isn't a song he wrote, so it's a possiblity that he did it as a tribute to his father; but, that's not what the lyrics are about. the lyrics are about syd barret; as is the whole WYWH cd.

fucking terrible cover....i hate how they sped up and put that shitty distortion on the introduction because that was my FAVORITE part of the real song. Wyclefs scratchy r&b reggae voice completley chopped the lyrics

Pangea, you're a fucking retard. This song wasn't wrote by Wyclef, it was wrote by Pink Floyd.

It is a shitty cover anyway.

This is an extremely powerful song. It is about Wyclef's relationship with his father, who is now deceased. "So so you think you can tell heaven from hell Blue skies from pain Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail A smile from a veil do you think you can tell Did they get you to trade your heros for ghosts Hot ashes for trees Hot air for a cool breeze Cold comfort for change" Now that his father is dead, Wyclef is asking him is his anger and frustration is now transformed in heaven. "We're jus two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year Runnin over the same old ground" Here he is talking about how now that his father is dead, their sould cannot meet, but are trying to find eachother. Wyclef's father ignited the fire that is his love of music. he is spreading this love, from the projects to the blocks.

This song makes me sad. Pink Floyd did nothing to deserve this done to one of their best songs....or any of their songs
