If I Could Change Your Mind Lyrics
Keeping myself to myself
Can't pretend that it's been easy since you went away
Living with somebody else
If you would turn around and look behind
If you could see me the way I used to be
I would do it all again
Holding on to memories and pretending not to care
Knowing that the show was soon to end
If only you would change
If I had the chance I'd do it all again
I would do it all again
Drifting along with the tide
And the joy of simple things and ordinary ways
Taking it all in my stride
If I could let you see what lies behind
If you could need me the way it used to be
Living in my dreams since then
At the risk of losing only castles in the air
Come with me and we can try again
Oh, if only I could change your mind

Meanings are obvious here in this beautiful song, sung by the lovely Leslie Duncan - one of the very few female singers for APP.
HOWEVER, I would argue that in keeping with the theme of EVE, this is a softer, romantic representation of women. Quite a few of the songs before this are derogatory and sung from a crass male perspective.
Like Woofson's use of Ligeti-type tone clusters to create tension before a song, here he demonstrates throughout EVE, the tensions between man and woman . Then, with this song, a woman wistfully wishes that that it would somehow be different between us all.
APP took a lot of heat for this album and had it been released today no doubt it would be banned in some countries due to sexist content. But I believe that they were trying to accurately sum up the good and the bad, the love and hatred in the battle of the sexes.
