Throw Away Your Television Lyrics
Time to make this clean decision
Master waits for it's collision now
It's a repeat of a story told
It's a repeat and it's getting old
Make a break big intermission
Recreate your super vision now
It's a repeat of a story told
It's a repeat and it's getting old
Renegades with fancy gauges
Slay the plague for it's contagious
Pull the plug and take the stages
Throw away your television now
Take the noose off your ambition
Reinvent your intuition now
It's a repeat of a story told
It's a repeat and it's getting old
Salivate to repetition
Levitate this ill condition now
It's a repeat

Could you have picked a more ironic place for calling the Peppers sellouts?

i hate bands that sell-out more than anything.but rhcp did not and willnever sell out..they haev been through so much shit and are so sincere with the fans that i could never imagine them being sell outs.the new cd is soo awesome...in a different way than the rest.theyre keeping the albums interesting rather than put out the same album 8 different times...ppl grow.change, and mature.event he chili peppers.this is just how they have matured .they have ,in no way.sold out.

i think its saying get out of this place or this stage in your life because you will get hurt again. it uses the metaphore of a TV as your life. so it is saying trow away your current life and start fresh with someone else or somewhere else or whatever the situation. This song is really good as is nearly every RHCP song ever but the problem it has is the same as alot of the songs on the "by the way" album, that is in my oppinion it promises to get heavy but never does. the whole album is really mellow compared to their others, that isnt a bad thing as the songs are really good but i was expecting an even better revamped new millenium version of "blood sugar sex magik" which i didnt get. after hearing the frist track before i had the album i thought that 2002 would have the true summer of rock fronted by the chili peppers but it isnt. the album and this song are still really good though.

dude thats not what im saying. i dont think the chilis are sell-outs in any way, i just think maybe they are mellowing out, alot of bands do this and i think their music is still of the same quality, just not the same style. i actually think the by the way album is better than californication. but not better than blood sugar sex magik! anyway the single "by the way" is very funky and quite heavy so why would they release that as thier first single if they were trying to attract a pop audience?

RHCP didn't fucking sell out. "It just sounds better when you put harmony on there. We've done all variaties of vocals before, and this is just a new and fun place to venture to." -Anthony Keidis. (From Rolling Stone Magazine)
Sure it's different. They're rock, punk, funk, even a little ska, all rolled into one. It makes it different, unique, and good. Just because By The Way is a more mellow record doesn't mean they sold out. Mellow isn't in now... just look at Mtv. It's all about rebellious hard rockin' fuck-ups.

Put down the order of albums which your think are the best to worst.

Awww...JJskaman3...how can you put Freaky Styley at the bottom? It's got Yertle the Turtle! Turtley goodness!
I don't have a specific favourite album...I like them all, but in different ways. I'm not really into their self-named one, but I still think it's quality.

The television has been a metaphor for commercialised modern values for a long time now. It makes sense that the Peppers would say "throw it out".

I have to agree with malachite on the television metaphor, but especially the turtley goodness point!! Finally someone who appreicates the true value of Dr Suess stories fixed with funk rock, and dodgy voices! Masterpiece. Anyway the song is just all about people losing their imagination for entertainment and taking what is being fed to them. Maybe a hint of rebelliousness at what we are forcefed by the mass media? No thats just me being anarchist
