Childhood Lyrics

Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for the world that I come from
'Cause I've been looking around
In the lost and found of my heart...
No one understands me
They view it as such strange eccentricities...
'Cause I keep kidding around
Like a child, but pardon me...

People say I'm not okay
'Cause I love such elementary things...
It's been my fate to compensate,
for the Childhood
I've never known...

Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for that wonder in my youth
Like pirates in adventurous dreams,
Of conquest and kings on the throne...

Before you judge me, try hard to love me,
Look within your heart then ask,
Have you seen my Childhood?

People say I'm strange that way
'Cause I love such elementary things,
It's been my fate to compensate,
for the Childhood I've never known...

Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for that wonder in my youth
Like fantastical stories to share
The dreams I would dare, watch me fly...

Before you judge me, try hard to love me.
The painful youth I've had

Have you seen my Childhood...

The poignant lyrics provide insight into the tragic life of Michael Jackson. Several lines are particularly heartwrenching:

"People say I'm not okay, 'Cause I love such elementary things...It's been my fate to compensate, for childhood I've never known...Before you judge me, try hard to love me.."

In his pleas for understanding, he reveals self-awareness of how his life was peculiar and eccentric du to his attempts to regain his childhood. Thrust into performing and a public life practically since birth, his life really was devoid of a childhood. He was formed, admired, then ridiculed by the media and greater public. I find it hard to castigate an individual who lost so much innocence early on without anyone or anyplace in which to find shelter from the world.

His recent death has left me with such a lasting feeling of sadness. I hope in death he is somehow able to find the acceptance and love that eluded him in life. The profound sadness that surrounds his life should be a reminder that we should all be a little kinder and accepting of our fellow man despite how different they may be. We have no idea what burdens they bear or trauma they've suffered along the way resulting in who they are now.

My Opinion

@spyglass25 what a nice opinion, very sensitive about who really was Michael Today for some reason I have tough about Michael and his lost childhood all day..and makes me very sad trying to imagine that

Michael said this is his most 'autobiographical' song he's ever written.

If you know anything about Michael Jackson's childhood, it is that he didn't have one. In this song, he is saying "have you seen my childhood?" - he didn't have one, and is constantly trying to make up for it.

He has also said in interview he feels like he has to compensate for that, hence the line: "it's been my fate, to compensate, for the childhood, i've never known"

Michael had a very sad and lonely childhood, and if you understand that it explains a lot of who he is. He's very complicated and people don't try to understand him before they judge him.

This song is beautiful, and truly says what Michael was feeling.

I watched an interview where he was talking about this song..He was saying how when he sings "before you judge me try hard to love me" he really means it...He was almost crying when he said it...I believe you Michael...Go be in peace...

This song, was used in the film free Willy. But it is also very personal to him, it's basically saying that he had no childhood. Has anyone seen it. He started showbusiness at a young age and never had time to play games etc.

Maybe its a way to justify his behaviour. Why he buys so many toys, and why he has/had a theme park.

Either way, its beautiful.

If there's one thing I am okay with after his death, is that he has finally found peace. No one can hurt him now.
