This song shows an awakening to a reality we have been programmed to believe since birth. Babylon is the world we live in today, there is nothing ancient about it. it is a world of control that has been pulled over our eyes. there are some other details included to help the verse flow, but ultimately, we see a battle begin to form between a new perception of the world with their previous beliefs and attitudes of this world.

from what i can tell, (from an admittedly brief perusal of their song lyrics) this song is alone, or nearly so, in showing a higher consciousness (comprehension of God) among their music
they are obviously very intelligent and so have the basic understanding that you mentioned, along with a very vague remnant of christian ideology - it's a good start, perhaps they will develop those two ideas further and come to some solid truth, rather than just a realization of lies
how is their other music in any way "a realization of lies"???? You don't have to rap about theology in great detail in order to rap intelligently and with purpose.

i would just like to say that having listened to their music a lot heavier, i take back the 'vague remnant' comment, and im at the point of calling them the most talented, truthful, and uncorrupted group i've ever heard - this song's vision is also particularly echoed by songs like 13th floor (growing old), liberation, millenium, mainstream, etc etc etc. and generally in all their music, it's amazing
As things deteriorate in this world, it doesn't help that my girlfriend is playing games with me. The Whore of Babylon is a figure in Christianity associated with the devil and evil. She is considered the mother of all prostitutes and I think that they use Babylon as the title very cleverly because it does tie right into what their overall message is. Basically from what I can take from the lyrics is that they are trying to keep faith in women but ultimately women make it extremely difficult for men to stay trustworthy of them. It's a brilliant song and looking back you can tell this was one of the songs on ATLiens that showed a sign of things to come on later Outkast LPs.
