They said we made a perfect pair
I clothed myself in you glory and your love
How I loved you, how I cried
The years of care and loyalty
Were nothing but a sham it seems
The years belie we lived the lie
"I love you 'till I die"
I can't face this life alone
Save me, save me, save me
I'm naked and I'm far from home
I'll erase the memories
To start again with somebody new
Was it all wasted, all that love?
I hang my head and I advertise
A soul for sale or rent
I have no heart, I'm cold inside
I have no real intent
I can't face this life alone
Save me, save me, oh
I'm naked and I'm far from home
I love you 'till I die
Save me, save me, oh save me
Don't let me face this life alone
Save me, save me, oh
I'm naked and I'm far from home

It is, in fact, written from the perspective of the girl in the relationship-- Brian said so.

Why does it have to be from the female point of view? It's pretty ambiguous, which is one of the great things about this song. It could be about a man that was dumped by a woman, a woman dumped by a man, a man dumped by a man...well, you get the picture. It also goes further than just being dumped though: He gave up his whole life for her, she was everything to him, but now that he doesn't have her anymore, he doesn't really have a life anymore.

it's obviously when you end a relationship that was basically your world. i think there was cheating, "each night I cry, I still believe the lie, "I love you 'til the day I die".
I can totally relate. You feel so stranded after you have finished a relationship. you need that closeness, you need to be saved. you can even be a shell of person, so you put your self out there. "A soul for sale or rent"

I think the line"I love you 'till I die" had quotation marks as to remark what was once said between them. Things never last forever.
I am going though a rough situation and this song reflects exactly how I feel inside.
I think the main line - Save me - itse;f depicts the pain and suffering one undergoes when going through a breakup.
I think this is one of Queen's best ballads.

The years of care and loyalty Were nothing but a sham it seems The years belie we lived the lie "I love you 'till I die"
He appears to be beginning to believe that she was lying when she said she loved him. He's not quite there yet because he says "it seems". But he is starting to believe she never truly loved him as he did her otherwise she wouldn't have left! It may or may not be true. There is some anger here which is common after a breakup. And therapeutic.
Also, at the end he sings about how he still believes the lie (that she loved him). Well don't we all want to still believe that the person we loved so much loved us back in the same way? And if he can manage to believe that then he keeps hope alive that she might return someday. The unfortunate thing for him is that this is the cause of his pain. He probably knows this but he is still going through the grieving process a bit longer. That's why he's writing a song and singing about it now! And that's why many of you are reading the interpretation of this song right now!
My heart goes out to all of my fellow recent break-up-ees. It does help to know we're not alone. And it's good to listen to in the car.

reminds me of ex boyfriend...saw him today actually...quite sad...very sad song but oh so beautiful.

lovely song. the lyrics are very true.

About a breakup.

maybe not years, but months and months spent on somebody for me. each night i cry, i still believe the lie i love you till i die.

actually seems to be the narrator (freddie) is telling the story from the side of the female: she is saying "save me" but he is not responding, the last resort/guilt trip trying to get the unmoving guy back
