When I see you again
Will it be the same
When I see you again
Will it be over
When I see you again
Will your great eyes still say

[Chorus]
What's the matter, baby
What's the matter, baby
What's the matter, baby, baby, baby
What's the matter, baby
What's the matter, baby
What's the matter, baby, baby

So she walks slowly down the hall
There are many doors in the hallway
And she stares at the stairs
Ooh there are many things to stare at these days
If she sees him again
Will your very best friend
Will your very best friend
Oh, have been replaced by some other

[Chorus]

And the dream says I want you
And the dream is gone
So she stays up night on end
Well at least there is a dream left

If I see you again
Will it be over
If I see you again
Will it be the same
If I see you again
Will it be over
Again and again
Over and over

can't belive no one has commented on this song - I love it! Nicks voice has just tragedy to it when she sings this, you really feel for her. The lyrics can be realted to a range of situations, too, boyfriend/girlfriend, or a death.....just an amazing song really!

This must be the saddest post-breakup songs ever.

"So she walks slowly down the hall There are many doors in the hallway And she stares at the stairs Ooh there are many things to stare at these days"

I imagine this part is about her remembering how he packed up all his stuff that was in the rooms and he walked up the stairs and out the door, leaving her alone in the hallway... and I also imagine it is a metaphor for how she has many options, or doors, to pursue in her life now, but she's so depressed that she just wants out, only contemplating the "exit."

Like most of Stevie's songs, this is about her star crossed soul mate, Lindsey Buckingham

Just like "Welcome to The Room Sara" this song is about her rehab at Betty Ford Clinic and it was going to be the final track on the album but they found it too depressing and that's why "You and I Part II" is at the end.
