Honey you are a rock
Upon which I stand
And I come here to talk
I hope you understand

That green eyes
Yeah the spotlight, shines upon you
And how could anybody deny you

I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter
Now I met you
And honey you should know
That I could never go on without you
Green eyes

Honey you are the sea
Upon which I float
And I came here to talk
I think you should know

That green eyes
You're the one that I wanted to find
And anyone who tried to deny you
Must be out of their mind

Because I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter
Since I met you
And honey you should know
That I could never go on without you

Green eyes
Green eyes
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh

Honey you are the rock
Upon which I stand

Don't quote me on this...but I'm pretty positive that the song was written about Natalie Imbruglia because Chris Martin had been dating her prior to Gwenyth when he was writing the song. And that he no longer plays this song in concert. Gwenyth has blue eyes.

man, coldplay has some of the simplest songs around, but holy crap they are so awesome. i mean every word or note of music you hear just takes you to another place. what a song... simply brilliant just like all their others.

I love this song. I love it when it stops being just a guitar, and the drums and bass come in. Very well done live, too. Coldplay is amazing.

"I came here with a load, And it feels so much lighter now I met you, "

That is great. And everything else is amazingly adorable and sweet. Aww.

I adore this song. Oddly enough, I heard somewhere that Chris, the lead singer, is/was dating Gwyeth Paltrow and she has green eyes. Kind of makes sense ("spotlight shines on you"). shrug

Either way, this song is just beautiful, expressing the feelings a guy feels for his green-eyed love.

I love having green eyes. hehe

As a couple of other people have said, this song was written about pop singer Natalie Imbruglia who clearly has deep green eyes.

Chris Martin dated Natalie briefly, before she got back together with (and eventually married) Daniel Johns of Australian band Silverchair, who she'd been going out with prior to Chris. That's why Coldplay stopped playing it in concert.

I aboslutely love this song! Its one of those kinda songs that you wish someone would sing to you... To me hes saying how much he looked for someone he would altogether love. He found what he wanted in her, and everything is so much easier and more simple for him now that he has her. ... I also have green eyes so that is probably yet another reason why i like this song so much. I wish i could find a love like that.

He reuses the verse melody from the previous album's "Dirty Little Religion", the topics of the verses are all over the place, and he packs too many words into one line (goes to show...) and too few in another (it's pretty hard to find), and rhymes "Henley Regatta" with "Persona non grata", but gets away with it all as only he could.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
