As I lay here lyin' on my bed
Sweet voices come into my head
Oh what it is, I want to know
Please won't you tell me it's got to go
There's a feelin' that's inside me
tellin' me to get away
But I'm so tired of livin'
I might as well end today
As I lay here lyin' on my bed
Sweet voices come into my head
Oh what it is, I want to know
Please won't you tell me it's got to go
There's a feelin' that's inside me
tellin' me to get away
But I'm so tired of livin'
I might as well end today
As I lay here lyin' on my bed
Sweet voices come into my head
Oh what it is, I want to know
Please won't you tell me it's got to go
There's a feelin' that's inside me
tellin' me to get away
But I'm so tired of livin'
I might as well end today
Sweet voices come into my head
Oh what it is, I want to know
Please won't you tell me it's got to go
There's a feelin' that's inside me
tellin' me to get away
But I'm so tired of livin'
I might as well end today
As I lay here lyin' on my bed
Sweet voices come into my head
Oh what it is, I want to know
Please won't you tell me it's got to go
There's a feelin' that's inside me

I might as well end today
As I lay here lyin' on my bed
Sweet voices come into my head
Oh what it is, I want to know

There's a feelin' that's inside me
tellin' me to get away
But I'm so tired of livin'
I might as well end today

I don't see how this song has anything to do with love.. more like a teenage suicide song it seems..
I always thought it was about a guy just living from day to day, doing nothing because he has nothing to do. All he does is sleep and dream. He has an actual dream to do something, and he gets this urge to get up and do it, but he can't figure out what it is he wants to do so the urge simply frustrates him or drives him crazy. In the end, he's sick of living this way but can't see any way out of it, so he simply goes back to sleep, to dream of greater things again.
Really classic IM. Its almost straight out punk in the middle, but when the guitars get a bit more complicated, that subsides a bit.
Why do people always assume its teenagers commiting suicide?? LOL where does it say anything about teenagers...
Get off my lawn!! Damn kids and your.. music!!
@logikmtr Well, teenagers tend to be moody and lie on their bed a lot! Also, this song was from Killers (1981), but probably written in the earlier days - so Steve Harris was probably barely more than 20 when he wrote it. Thus, more likely to write the thoughts of a teenager than those of an old man!
Listen to the bass line around 2:00. Fucking amazing.
Agree with logikmtr. Kind off related to suicide but not only teenagers.. Anyone having a suicide tendency. Also this theme matches to the concept of the Killers album in which all songs are related to death in one way or other... Again a great song from this stunning album.
Excellent song, he repeats the verse 2 other times to show the futility of his lif and wanting/wishing for another one, aside from the dark lyrics the music is excellent and sounds like early Metallica/megadeth/Anthrax/Overkill/Testament/Kreator/Exodus/Slayer and many other Thrash bands that started around this period, which helps that Maiden did influence most of these bands. Maiden rules
Awesome and really has to do with a suicide!
Bruce Dickinson, Maiden's vocalist, revealed the meaning of this one while doing the intro on the live album "Beast Over Hammersmith", from '82. Although he doesn't mention how the guy died, he does say ". . . It's a song about a gentleman who goes up top, then comes back down to have another go at life." Sounds to me like it could be about a guy who dies before his fate is fully served on Earth, so he's sent back down to complete it.
bruce was just a kid when i wrote that song
Song is about suicide...
but the speed and sound of the song just makes me get up and get out to do something...
Imagine driving on a highway while listening to this song, you will definitely step on the gas more...
Great song altogether...
I always had the impression of a somewhat depressed/suicidal person. (I mean, "I'm so tired of living, I might as well end today." are pretty clear!) Maybe someone who wants to do something but is fighting with failure or depression.
