There's a beautiful sky tonight
When if you were by my side then we could share it but you're gone
So come at me with your moon and burn me in the stars
'Cause nothing matters anymore

If I could only see you now for about an hour
Maybe just a minute
Just to ask
What he's got that I don't have?
Is it his brown eyes?

I know blue eyes get boring but
I'll wear dark glasses all the time
And hey, if you want me to, I'll take a knife to my own bright eyes

If I could only see you now for about an hour
Maybe just a minute
Just to ask
What he's got that I don't have?
Is it his brown eyes?
Well, I'll give you a thousand reasons that tonight you should grant me this one wish

Like the one year of my life that I gave to you and
Now you put me through hell
You break me up, yeah
I should hate you, but I can't replace you in my heart
Why am I so pathetic?
I don't get it why you won't return my calls

Can't you look at me once?
And please if you got a minute
Enjoy this lonely sky with me
It'll swallow us whole if we only let it

If I could only see you now for about an hour
Maybe just a minute
Just to ask
What he's got that I don't have?
Is it his brown eyes?
Well, I'll give you a thousand reasons that tonight you should grant me this one wish

Like the one year of my life that I gave to you and
Now you put me through hell
You break me up, yeah
If this sky's going to eat us then I'd like to be digested into
A million pieces with you
I'd love to be scattered to hell with you, to hell with you
To hell with you

"Is it his brown eyes? I know blue eyes get boring but I'll wear dark glasses all the time and hey if you want me to, I'll take a knife to my own bright eyes."

...seems desperate, but then he's like "To hell with you!" Have you ever really cared for someone to find out that they used you, but you still want them back so bad you'll do anything, but later you say to hell with them because it just hits you that you'll never get back together, you'll never talk to them again, there's nothing left, etc.., but you know later you're going to feel lost again? I think that's what this song is like

First off, such a great song. The lyrics, music, vocals, everything. Saves the Day is such a good band..actually that's an understatement.

I found it interesting to hear him say blue eyes can get boring. I have brown eyes, and I always thought more people found them boring and that people generally liked blue eyes more. I don't know, maybe that theory is true despite what Chris wrote or maybe it's completely false and was never true to begin with. ANYWAYS, I myself love both eye colors, they're my two favorites and I could never choose one over the other. None of what I just wrote is important to the meaning of the song, I just found it interesting, don't mind me.

I think it's pretty clear that this song is about wanting to be with someone that doesn't quite feel the same way, or maybe it's just not possible for them to be together. This song deals with rejection - "I don't get it why you won't return my calls" Longing - "I'll give you a thousand reasons that tonight you should grant me this one wish" and all of the other lines about wanting to spend time with this person. and from the line "What he's got that I don't have?" I sense jealousy, since when someone you want wants to be with another person, you can't help but feel jealous of the person they want. This song is so easy for people to relate to, I think everyone has felt the things I mentioned above at some point in their lives. They did a wonderful job with this, one of my favorites by Saves the Day.

My friends recently got me into this band, and this is by far my favorite song by them. I think anyone who's ever been rejected by that one person who made their life whole will be able to relate to this song.

the title of this song is a mystery to me but I feel like its about rejection and all the insecurities that come with being rejected.

its amazing how far music can come.. 24 years after it released and its one of the most heartfelt songs ive heard

The Spy

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
