Never Let You Go Lyrics

There's every good reason for letting you go
She's sneaky and smoked out and it's starting to show

I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you turn around, you're back on each other
That's a good idea, break a promise to your mother
Turn around, you're back on each other

You say that I've changed, well maybe I did
But even if I changed, what's wrong with it?

I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you turn around, you're back on each other
That's a good idea, break a promise to your mother
Turn around, you're back on each other

And all our friends are gone, are gone
And all the time moves on, and on
And all I know is it's wrong, it's worng
And all I know is it's wrong, it's wrong
It's wrong
It's wrong
It's wrong

If there's a reason, it's lost on me
Maybe we'll be friends, I guess we'll see

I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you turn around, you're back on each other
That's a good idea, break a promise to your mother
Turn around, you're back on each other

Turn around, you're back on each other
That's a good idea break a promise to your mother
Turn around, let's turn on each other
What a good idea

I remember the stupid things, the mood rings, the bracelets, and the beads, nickels and dimes, yours and mine, did you cash in all your dreams, you don't dream for me no, you don't dream for me no, but I still feel you pulsing like sonar from the days in the waves, that girl is like a sunburn I would like to save, that girl is like a sunburn, I would like to save, she's like a sunburn

it's likely about an incredible relationship that isn't there anymore. steve (jenkins, the lead singer) begins with "there's every good reason for letting you go" and 'ere too long informs "i never let you go". obviously he realizes that he needs to move on because it's over and there's nothing to do but seek another harbor.

however, the song continues with this conflicted state of mind, because he argues "even if i changed, what's wrong with it?" the lyric is reminiscent of a "take me back" kind of argument. later on, he expresses that he doesn't understand why he can't be together with this super-fly chica. "if there's a reason, it's lost on me" but still allows himself an out, in the interest of adapting himself to the fact that they may never resume the previous relationship. "maybe we'll be friends, i guess we'll see".

the last verse is an amazing form of nostalgia. i love the "i remember the stupid things, the mood rings, the bracelets, and the beads" lines because that's what past relationships eventually become. a letter here, a bracelet there, things that remind us of times that are gone--"you don't dream for me, no". we can still feel that magic every so often, after it's over, if we've found it hard to get over that person. hence "i still feel your pulse like a sonar".

the line that takes the cake for me is "that girl is like a sunburn i would like to save". incredibly poetic.... we can get burned, but we don't want the burn to fade away, because we want to keep that girl (or that guy) in that magical way that she/he once meant to us. once the sunburn's gone, you've learned and don't feel the pain anymore.

so kudos to windchild, because the song really is about change and the road blocks we face along the way to accept it.

I love this interpretation!!

I agree with "sls23" on that one. Everybody messes that up. Anyway, to me this song is about a lover who you want to forget about but just can't. It's a really cool song and fun to jam with on guitar!

You have it figured out. This song is nostalgia, nostalgia, nostalgia. I love it to death.

This song seems to be told from a guy's perspective.

He was in a bad relationship that makes no sense to him. He thought he would be happy with this girl and be with her forever. And even as the years pass and times change, he still carries her memory with him.

Basically this song is about reflecting on a point of your life.

I think this song means, that he could never really get the girl he wants, but can still not let her go. He loves her too much to just let it go. Maybe he thinks there's still hope, but at the same time he thinks he wants to let go but his heart gets the best of him. "so what if I change whats wrong with it" maybe this person has changed in the eyes of his friends, but he denys it, he still thinks he's the same person, even before he met the girl he fell in love with. "that girl is like a sunburn" she either is a memory of the summer, or it's something that bothers him for awhile but goes away, its a reoccurring thing.

idk, that's just my interpretation.

I think its about two people who were best friends who drifted apart, and sometimes you've gotta do things to keep the friendship strong which is why you've gotta break the rules to have fun i.e 'break a promise to your mother' and he doesn't want his best friend to turn her back on him coz they had a good friendship. - 'i never let you turn around, your back on eachother' I think he also thinks times going too fast and thats why he thinks 'its wrong'. He can't understand how all his friends are moving on to new things in their lives while he still thinks about memories. Which also makes me think its about being stuck in the past and not wanting things to change. I think hes just thinking about life in general too, wondering who'll be there for him in the long run and whoever he's singing this to, he doesn't want to lose them.

this song is about change and closing a passage in our lives, even if that passage burns others, we are constantly changing and growing and if they love us as much as they say they would understand.

I think an important thing to notice in the lyrics is that they say "I never let you go" instead of "I'll never let you go" There's a big difference and some people mess up the lyrics.

I'd never turn my back on any of my brothers or sisters, because between us all, it's an unspoken promise to our mother that we wouldn't. This is what this song reminds me off. That promise.
