I spent a day by the river
It was quiet and the wind stood still
I spent some time with nature
To remind me of all that's real
It's funny how silence speaks sometimes when you're alone
And remember that you feel
I said it's funny how silence speaks sometimes when you're alone
And remember that you feel
Again I stand, lord I stand
Against the faceless man
Again I stand, lord I stand
Against the faceless man

Now I saw a face on the water
It looked humble but willing to fight
I saw the will of a warrior
His yoke is easy and his burden is light

He looked me right in the eyes
Direct and concise to remind me
To always do what's right
He looked me right in the eyes
Direct and concise to remind me
To always do what's right

Again I stand, lord I stand
Against the faceless man
Again I stand, lord, god I stand
Against the faceless man

'Cause if the face inside can't see the light
I know I'll have to walk alone
And if I walk alone to the other side
I know I might not make it home

Again I stand, lord I stand
Against the faceless man
Again I stand, lord I stand
Against the faceless man

Next time I see this face
I'll say I choose to live for always
So won't you come inside and never go away
Next time I see this face
I'll say I choose to live for always
So won't you come inside and never go away

Again I stand, lord I stand
Against the faceless man
Again I stand, lord I stand
Against the faceless man
Again I stand, lord I stand
Against the faceless man

When he says "Now I saw a face on the water. It looked humble but willing to fight. I saw the will of a warrior. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. He looked me right in the eyes, Direct and concise to remind me To always do what's right", he is clearly talking about Jesus Christ. In fact "his yoke is easy, and his burden is light" is a direct quote from the bible talking about Christ. The faceless man is Christ. Scott Stapp is saying he knows there is someone there, but he doesn't know him well enough to see his face. But he goes on to say "Next time I see this face, I'll say I choose to live for always. So won't you come inside And never go away". This means maybe if God really reveals himself to Scott again (like he's saying 'God, just give me ONE more sign, THEN I'll believe'), then he'll invite Christ into his heart and ask Him to never go away. But also, when it says "...if the face inside can't see the light I know I'll have to walk alone And if I walk alone to the other side I know I might not make it home". He is saying that if the light of Christ can't be seen in him by God, he'll have to walk alone. And if he dies without the light inside (christ), he might not make it home (to heaven). The fact is though, there's no 'might' or maybe about it. Either there was and is a Jesus Christ, son of God, who was and is the only way to heaven, or there isn't. Decide soon Scott...

well put.... I was thinking that it mean if he doesn't accept Jesus Christ, then he knows he'll have to "walk alone on the other side, he might not make it home", meaning he'll end up in Hell, not Heaven.

This song is excellent. Chosen, you did an excellent job on interpreting this song. This is one of my favorite creed songs because of its meaning. It is poetry.

Chosen I have to agree with everyone else on this point you did an extrodanarily good job on your analization of this song. Props to you, you are a true Creed fan, who realizes what Scott was trying to get through in this song. This is Creeds number one fan, Creedrulz

Great analysis! Kudos to you. Struggling with one's christianity seems to be a theme amongst alot of Creed's music.

Actually, chosen1, I will agree for the "most part" with the others. You have looked into this song for its deeper meaning, but I am not so sure about your analysis of "...if the face inside can't see the light I know I'll have to walk alone And if I walk alone to the other side I know I might not make it home." I don't think it is "the light of Christ can't be seen in him by God, he'll have to walk alone", because God doesn't forsake. Just because the light isn't shining for outward notice, Jesus wouldn't leave him to walk alone. Try this on for size, let me know how it fits. How about the face inside actually being his conscience, and if he can't see the light, the truth, then he won't be saved, and will be left to walk alone. By your analysis, you leave it that man can be saved, and then not saved by some action, like not letting the light shine. But with this deeper look, I am saying that Scott is talking about the ability of himself to find the light.

K, dont shoot me for sayin this, but i have another perspective of this song. This song is from their first album. As if you guys watch any bio on scott's past you no that scott and his father didnt speak for awhile "scott was band from the church". With that said, i think this song he is asking for forgiveness from his father. Asking for forgiveness beucase Scott did make it on his own, and now he wants his family behind him. Let me know what you think.
