I think that he means that he did not realize how much better life was with christ until later in his life, and i think he wants his kid to realize it early in his life.

I just want to say this to everyone who has posted here that hates Creed and Scott Stapp. If you really hated them that much you wouldnt waste your time on this board posting stupid shit that no one will ever agree with because your all just pissed because Scott Stapp is a great song writer and he writes about stuff that he feels inside his heart and soul. And by the way, this song is about the day he found out that his wife was pregnant.

I think that it's about the birth of his son, but I think it's a double meaning.

It may also be about Forgiveness, and Jesus. Jesus basically saying "You are Forgiven!" and standing there with arms wide open, like He actually does.

When he says "I'll take her by my side", it could be to his wife, or grace, and how they are gonna have a child, or Scott dying, and being Born again in the name of Jesus.
