Voice of the Voiceless Lyrics

Through Steel walls
Your voice blastin on
True rebel, my brother Mumia
I reflect upon
You be tha spark
That set the prairie fires on
Make the masses a mastodon path
To trample the fascists on
At fifteen exposed Phillys finest killing machine
Boots and mad guns
They pacify ya young
Cause and effect
Smell tha smoke and tha breeze
My panther, my brother
We are at war until youre free

Youll never silence the voice of the voiceless

Yet tha powerful got nervous
Cause he refused to be their servant
He spit truth
That burned like black churches
Prose and versesA million poor in hearses
Watch the decision of Dred Scott
As it reverses
Long as the rope
Is tied around Mumias neck
Let there be no rich white life
We bound to respect
Cause and effect
Cant ya smell tha smoke in tha breeze
My panther, my brother
We are at war until you're free

Youll never silence the voice of the voiceless

And Orwells hell a terror era coming through
But this little brothers watching you too
Watching you too

This song is about Mumia Abu-Jamal, a journalist, former Black Panther member and activist who has been on death row since 1982 for the alleged murder of a Philadelphia cop Daniel Faulkner. The trial was a joke, and in spite of eyewitnesses attesting a 3rd part who shot faulkner, abu-jamal was convicted and has been fighting for justice ever since, by releasing writings in journals, and in his book, Live from Death Row. Many have organized and rallied for his cause, but til today, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

why(if he did) kill the cop?

Cover art for Voice of the Voiceless lyrics by Rage Against the Machine

Mumia didn't shoot the cop. Sure, the cop did beat his brother, but it wouldn't have pushed him to kill. The gun that Mumia owned was of a different caliber than the bullet that killed the cop...just a little evidence that clears his name

His sentence was overturned in 2001!

Mattius82: First, in this nation we are innocent until proven guilty. There is no witness to prove that he did shoot the cop except the cop himself, who is dead. Second, why would Mumia put the incorrect bullets into his gun. The incedent was random. Mumia didn't plan to shoot the cop so, therefore, he couldn't use incorrect bullets to throw of the investigation. Also i have never heard of a gun that can fire different bullets other than the ones designed specifically for that firearm. I'm no balsitics expert so i could be wrong. There is no proof to verify that Mumia shot the cop. He's innocent. And lastly RATM is not confused or ignorant. Most of all politics in this world are matters of opinion. Don't lash out RATM because you don't agree with or understand them. Their politics are not inacurate. True, they only convey their side of the story, but every great debator or scholar does the same. RATM believes in the lyrics they sing, which is more than anyone can say for most of the other bands in the world. They are one of the few bands that "practices what they preach." In the future apply more thought to your responses before you judge someone or something.
