My divorce from dependence
That's when you found me
I was still soft
And we always were in trouble
Odds stacked against us
And trouble's what we are

We get so far
And then it just starts rewinding
And the same old song
We're playing it again
Suspension without suspense (suspense, suspense, suspense)

Now that I've murdered your inspiration
And I forced you off
Do you hate me?
Do you want revenge?
Oh, I want to call you
But I won't

We get so far
And then it just starts rewinding
And the same old song
We're playing it again
Suspension without suspense

Oh, the pessimistic protection plan
Moderation loving
I've been hardened by the circumstance
We knew this was coming (this was coming)

We get so far
And then it just starts rewinding
And the same old song
We're playing it again
Suspension without suspense

Oh, we get so far
And then it just starts rewinding
And the same old song
We're playing it again and again
Suspension without suspense
Oh, intentions without intent
But I don't want the love we have to end

i love this song, it reminds me of one of my good friends that i was in love with, and it was just the same thing over and over. "we get so far, and then it just starts rewinding, and the same old song, we're playing it again, suspension without suspense..." that totally fits it.

Tis about rebound relationships and how they aren't always a wise move.

This song is about relationships that never move forward. People seem to try to make things work with the magic they had in the beginning, but don't realize that you learn so much more about people's habits that you don't see at first. People evolve and change, even if you don't think you are, and your partner has to be willing to accept that and change with you or risk losing you. Often, people go into an unhealthy pattern of stuffing problems under the rug for the sake of staying together, and it only works for so long before those problems sneak up on you and attack. It'll just keep coming back or "rewinding". Suspension without suspense = hanging around even though you know the outcome.

alright, this song to me atleast, is about a relationship that many did not believe would work out. they would get to a point where they thought things were completely awesome, but there was something holding them back from moving forward. whatever it was that was holding them back would stir something about between them and take them back to where they started. it's all about two people who love eachother so much that they don't want to give up on eachother, but the suspense is missing because they know how the outcome goes.

This is my Fav. No doubt song. I think, overall, its about a relationship where the it just goes in the same cycle. They cant avoid it and they do nothing to change it.

This probably isn't what it meant to Gwen, but to me... this song is about a relationship between two people who are still hurt from their last relationship. And she realized that she wasn't really in love with this person and she broke it off, because she was just using him to project her feelings for her ex onto something. And she admitted this to him and he got pissed. :\ And then she realizes that she DOES love him! And ahh! And they're in a long distance relationship. and I'm relating this to me now.

hmmm... i thnk the song is talkn about a broken relationship. the whole: We get so far And then it just starts rewinding And the same old song We're playing it again....................is probably saying that the couple is trying to move on and then when they actually get to that point of moving forth something makes them weak and they go back to each othr...not actually back TOGETHER...but u knoe that whole starting to talk again and seeing each othr...getting tingly feelings again...confusing thoughts and frustrations thatll get em mad again...and then they dont wanna talk and see othr and dont try cuz they dont wanna seem like they care or wanna hurt the othr....and it jst keeps going and going cuz they havent let go....eh. i tried. lol

this song is about being with someone you love so much, but it's just not working out. even though it's not working out, you don't want to give up on the relationship. so, it's like this never ending cycle thing that goes on and on 'cause no one has the balls to really end it end it. it's a beautiful song!

Not playing around with any specific-ness, it`s about getting yourself into something without looking on it, & then just falling back to where you came from. The song title itself describes that perfectly & "We get so far & then it just starts rewinding..." is also a good reference to my interpretation.

He reuses the verse melody from the previous album's "Dirty Little Religion", the topics of the verses are all over the place, and he packs too many words into one line (goes to show...) and too few in another (it's pretty hard to find), and rhymes "Henley Regatta" with "Persona non grata", but gets away with it all as only he could.

This song is def a twin to "Unfair" (a song she has been quoted as saying is about falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship) so it is presumably about the same person. Given the references to buying an apartment and not being able to see her love interest "after tonight," it's most likely that she's moving away and she'll "wait a day to break the bad news" (i.e. notifying him that she's leaving once she's already gone). And, of course, the fact that she sees in him a fellow "idealist" and "dreamer" (terms commonly given to people with the INFP personality on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)) portends that she'll always be left wondering if they would've been perfect together.

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
