I think her boyfriend cheated on her and for some reason I think that he got the other woman pregnant although all of this happened she still misses him

Dido's voice & lyrics are incredibly hypnotic.. I love this song and I completely agree about the meaning..although the pregnancy thing never hit me before, but looking over the lyrics closer I can defintely see where you get that- good observation. Savannah

That last stanza is: I hope you found that all you want is right there in that room all you need is sitting there with you

This is the progression of him leaving, her missing him, him hooking up with someone else while she is patiently waiting for him to "find himself", him using his key to get back in, her telling him to get out because he could have stayed or come home and found all he wanted and needed with her but he chose to try to find it somewhere else and then he wanted to be able to use her too. It's very sad and dehumanizing to love someone and they constantly want something more than you can possibly give. The best thing to do with a person like this is to tell them to "take their sin" and kick rocks.

My take on this song is similar, but a little bit different.

The narrator misses her ex (husband? boyfriend?) but he obviously was the one to screw up. They had everything. They loved each other. He ruined it not only by being unfaithful - but that unfaithfulness let to an unplanned pregnancy. He can never come home. It will never be the same. She taunts in the beginning that she can "sleep what side" she wants, but she has no one to hold due to her indescretions. SHE suffers the most by his indiscretions.

There could be some play on words here. Her "watching him sleep at night" could be construed as her being a little over-bearing - maybe explaining why he had his tryst in the first place.

The next part, near the end (the bridge - so to speak) I believe is present tense:

" I hear your key turning in the door, I won't be hearing that sound anymore And you and your sin can leave the way you just came in, Send my regards to her I hope you've found that

All you want, is right there in that room, all you want All you need is sitting there with you, all you want"

He has come back to see her and he brings "his sin" - his child. I don't believe he's in a relationship with the woman he slept with - but is doing the right thing by being a father to the child. He tries to make amends with the narrator and brings the child. This re-stings the narrator (this part is more of a crescendo) and she tells him to leave and not come back. "All you want is right there in that room, is sitting there with you, all you want". She tells him he left her long ago, for what he created that one night. No going back. She won't hear him turn the key in the door anymore. This last part explains further why the phrase "all you want is here in this room" - he's back to try to be with her. But she reminds him - no, all you want is there in that room - where the child is. I'd be P.O.'d too!

It took me 13 years to understand what the song was about.

[b]First verse[/b] : it tells the story of an ordinary, heterosexual couple. The narrator is a girl and she wakes up in an empty bed. She wishes her boyfriend came back. The chorus ("all you want is right here in this room") refers to her.

[b]Second verse[/b] : the narrator reveals that they have been together for 3 years, but the boy had a one-night stand. She is pregnant ("if those seeds had not been sown") and still wishes her boyfriend came back.

[b]Last verse[/b] : the narrator is convinced that her boyfriend will not come back, because he has got another girlfriend ("Send my regards to her"). She will probably raise her child alone. The last chorus ("all you want is right there in that room") refers to the boy's new girlfriend.

Forgot that part for the second verse.

In between, the narrator has not told her (now) former boyfriend that she is expecting their child ("You come home and you would know").

this song is about missing someone so badly, wanting to be with someone so badly that it becomes unbearable. he cheated on her, treated her badly, but what can she really do? she loves him so much. she's going from saying "you and your sin can leave the way you just came in ... i hope you've found that all you want is right there in that room" .... right back to saying how she just wants to be back, sleeping beside him again. she's trying very hard to be strong and say "I don't need this" ... but she knows she does.

I think this is a really sad song. In the beginning she is sad and she just wants him to come home, but in the end she is bitter because he is with someone else. But she really hopes that that relationship fails and he comes home in the end.

I think the line "if those needs had not been sown" is really "if those seeds had not been sown" (That's where the assumption that he got another girl pregnant comes from.)
