Every Breath You Take Lyrics
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
Every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay
You belong to me
How my poor heart aches with every step you take
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
I dream at night I can only see your face
I look around but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace
I keep crying baby, baby please
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake

the stalking song.

wasn't this the police before sting went solo?

It's a Police song, not just a Sting song. The 'every cake you bake, every leg you break' bit is at the end of "Love Is the Seventh Wave."
The song really is about a stalker. It's about obsession, surveillance, and possessiveness. "Every step you take, I'll be watching you." "Every night you stay [i.e., stay with someone else] I'll be watching you." The relationship between the singer and the subject is over, but the singer refuses to let go.
Sting said it was a metaphor for government surveillance.
There is nothing cuddly about this song at all. Sting even said he was creeped out at the thought of people having this played at their wedding. Creeped out all the way to the bank, I guess.

I think stalking can be open to interpretation a lot of times. There are a lot of dangerous people out there true but this song speaks to me about true love not stalking. In many cases, a person could have true legitimate feelings for another but it's taken out of context or misunderstood. And real love can be out of control sometimes and I think that's what this is about...

He wrote this after splitting with his actress wife, My mate thinks it's about a stalker but It says 'Since you've gone I've been lost without a trace.................I feel so cold and I long for your embrace' A stalker would'nt embrace you ! Dale you dick!

My best friend swore to me that at some point in this song he sings "every cake you bake." Ha ha. She was wrong. Dummy.

anybody ever heard the version of this song off of "All This Time"? it's faaaabulous! :)

Yes, that right. This is actually about a skalker, it's a very misinturpreted song.

I cant remember which song it is, but sting does sing 'every cake you bake, evey leg you break' taking the p**s out of himself. He's allowed a sense of humor people!
I think this songs about his son and daughter, I think they're called Joe and Kate, by his first marriage. When he got divorced, he didnt get to see them as much, and I think this songs about that. Saying that even though he cant always be with them, he will always be there for them.
I dunno, I could be way off.

It's always made me think that it's about a daughter of his who has run away, or gone into some kind of bad relationship, or gone onto the streets or totally rejected him as a father or something. Of course, I don't actually know his history, so I guess it could be anything. Perhaps it's a tribute to fathers who have lost their daughters in some way.
I don't know how you can say so definitively that it's about a stalker, Philly.
