Lewis (Mistreated) Lyrics
By your only business friend
The smell of fear is thicker than you think
Don't jump
In the end you just feel sick
A million love songs under anaesthetic
Don't jump
Save yourself the pain
You'll never get there
Lewis
Save yourself the pain
It never really mattered
We never understood
He just got crushed to fit
He never even smelt out the
Best, it's the best,
It's the best day of your life
Save yourself the pain
You'll never get there
Lewis
Save yourself the pain
It never really matters no
I swear, I swear, I swear
Lewis, mistreated, a low corporate
I don't want to talk about it
I don't want to talk about it. Lewis! Lewis! Lewis!
I don't want to talk about it. Lewis! Lewis! Lewis!

Well, I'm thinkin' that this song is about some guy named Lewis.
Yeah.
Ok, there's more. Lewis is just so sick of just being another "worker ant" in the daily hustle and bustle of work and life, being just treated like dirt by everyone and told what to do (being crushed to fit), and all of the illusions of happiness that run through the media every day (take for example, most "popular" music is about love, but they're so fake that they seem like they're "under anasthetic). But no matter what he thinks he SHOULD do, the speaker coaxes him not to end his life, since we never even noticed or understood how much Lewis was going through. Now it would be the best day of his life, since now that they knew his problem, they can help him. I believe that this song is about how we ought NOT to commit suicide, and that many people are good. There is a great meaning to everything. It wasn't just POP there's the universe; there was a master planner in charge of everything. There is just too much proof to say there is no God. He definitely exists.

I think I read somewhere lewis was a guy Thom knew from Oxford who wanted to be a big-wig in the corporate world.

I think the way Thom sings it, it's almost as if Lewis jumps right before Thom can finish his sentence.
"Lewis don't...jump" in that pause it kinda seems like he jumped, sad really.
The rest of the song is probably him talking to someone about Lewis committing suicide, and then Thom gets angry and refuses to talk anymore, it happens when people who have had someone close to them die, they don't want to talk about it.
This is all coming from first hand experience, knowing how depression and suicide comes about.
definitely! i could not agree more! specially with the part that he says "Dont...Jump"!

As much as i love new Radiohead it's a shame they don't make music like this anymore. This song is proof that they can be just as poignant and honest without all that layered space age anti-mainstream music.

"which album is this from? i thought i had them all :S"
My Iron Lung EP

Eh, well, sorry. Just got carried away.

hmmmm...don't agree with you ShesMyAlcatraz. This is a good song but it doesn't stack up to Radiohead's other "layered space age anti-mainstrem music." It's just too popish, when Radiohead hadn't reached their true potential.

hahaha... okay i know this is really mean, but, what if it was about his younger brother who also used to be in a band? (they\'ve split up recently... wonder if andy was sick of being asked about thom?)
anyway, i personally thought they were a pretty decent band, though an unfortunate name (\"unbelievable truth\"... \'i can\'t wait\' is good in my opinion)
well i doubt it is written about his brother because that would be a pretty mean and discouraging message... but it\'s still an amusing thought to me... poor andy... look up pictures of him people, it\'s eerie! it\'s like thom yorke gained 20 pounds plus some glasses... WEIRD.

i want this song soo bad, my name's lewis to!
