Early Sunsets Over Monroeville Lyrics

Late dawns and early sunsets
Just like my favorite scenes
Then holding hands
And life was perfect
Just like up on the screen
And the whole time while always giving
Counting your face among the living
Up and down escalators
Pennies and colder fountains
Elevators and half price sales
Trapped in by all these mountains
Running away and hiding with you
I never thought they'd get me here
Not knowing you'd change from just one bite
I fought them all off just to hold you close and tight

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head
But would anything matter if you're already dead?
And should I be shocked now by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger
Your eyes vacant and stained

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head
And would anything matter if you're already dead?
And now should I be shocked by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger
Your eyes vacant and stained
And in saying you loved me
Made things harder at best
And these words changing nothing
As your body remains
And there's no room in this hell
There's no room in the next
And our memories defeat us
And I'll end this direst

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head
But does anything matter if you're already dead?
And should I be shocked now by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger
Your eyes vacant and stained
And in saying you loved me
Made things harder at best
And these words changing nothing
As your body remains
And there's no room in this hell
There's no room in the next
But does anyone notice there's a corpse in this bed?

This song is about the movie Dawn Of The Dead, which took place in the Monroeville Mall. Watch it and the song will make a lot more sense to you.

Sorry about the post I forgot to add the detail behind the song. My Chemical Romance had a strange craving for horror growing up and you can tell in most of there songs it has a horror twist that could be implied. This song was about the ORIGINAL Dawn of The Dead which took place in the town of Monroeville, which followed a group of people who took shelter in the Monroeville mall. My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way and his brother Michael (aka Mikey) had always thought it would have been a great side story with two lovers with the group. It talks about the escalators and fountain refers to a scene in the movie when the zombies are going up the escalators and a zombie falls into the fountain. I remember when i was in high school together and we watched this watched movie wfor the first time and at that part when that zombie fell into that fountain Gerard could not stop laughing and Mikey just put it on the A-B repeat so we watched it about 100 times till we finished it. So it makes sense why Gerard put that in there. Also if you watched the 2004 version of Dawn of the Dead you can see how this song greatly influenced the director, seeming how there is two lover and one has to kill the other. There's alittle back story to that.

Thank You! All upvotes to you my brother!

this song is fucking incredible, its very true that a lot of the lines were inspired from dawn of the dead but it also is from having that girl that you always pine over and jsut worship because she is perfection in form, and you just question if she even knows you exist if she'd even care if she found yuo as a corpse in her bed, if a gun to her head would even make her acknowledge you...weve all had it and its soo hard..amazing fucking song

Ah, that clarifies things. I just watched the new Dawn of the Dead, and wasn't sure which it was about. I'll hunt down a copy of Romero's dotd.

Beautiful song.

Neat, i never thought of it like that orange... works fairly well to me. As much as i want to think he does say "and in saying you loved me makes this harder at best, and at worst changing nothing" he does definitely say "and these words changing nothing." It does make sense, he feels hopeless and knows that the things hes saying(singing) and thinking won't change anything because shes already bitten, using whichever meaning of bitten youd like. Probably my favourite song ever, if there's a song thats more mellow and relaxed while being full of emotion i havnt found it.

I absolutely love this song, so emotoinal. Its great to listen to when your depressed. They should've done more stuff like this instead of going all mainstream and crappy. The new mcr absolutley sucks and its a real shame they dont do stuff like this anymore.

The song is about a zombie apocalypse and a young couple who are cought in the middle of it all. The climax is when they are caught in a storm of them and she is bitten.

Not knowing you changed from just one bite. I fought them all off just to hold you close and tight.

Which is pretty clear, he killed the horde of zombies and when they got to the safe house she tells him he needs to kill her.

"And if I had the guts, to put this to your head but would anything matter if your already dead"

Obviously it's talking about him putting a gun to her head and thinking about not doing it thinking if she turns he could get a cure. She is telling him to do it.

"and should I be shocked now at the last thing you said? Befor I pull this trigger your eyes vacant and stained and saying you love me, makes things harder at best"

This is saying that he looks into her eyes as he is holder the gun to her head and he sees her eyes changing knowing that there isn't that long befor she changes and he is shocked by her telling him she rather be dead then live trying to kill him and she keeps saying she loves her and he is saying it back but saying that it is making It harder to pull the trigger

"but does anyone notice there's a corpse in this bed"

After he pulls the trigger there was a corpse in the bed and as he sat there holding her and crying he is bit by the reanimates corpse and he had shot him self. A very tragic ending but a very romantic feeling to it

P.S. If you are questioning wither our not this is a correct meaning to the song I know Gerard on a personal level I live across the street from his mother and got to know him befor they got big I was one of the first to recieve there first demo "Dreams of Stabbing and/or being stabbed" I got to talk to him about the songs he has written and will be trying to give all of the song meanings if you want to know more about the band you can send me a message on my profile and I'll give you my email

Alright, the only line I'm not sure of in there is:

"And these words changing nothing"

which could be...

"And at worst chaning nothing" which would go along with the line before it "...harder at best"..."and at worst...", see?

Well, listen to the song, and decide for yourself.

...and I'd have to say that this is one of the best songs on the cd, absolutley amazing.

i think when he says "and these words changing nothing" he is reffering to the line "and in saying you loved me". i think he meant saying i love you didnt change anything. well thats what i got out of it anyway.

Not Valid

This song is probably my favorite on the album. The Monroeville in the title, are they talking about Monroeville, Pennsylvania?
