Out on the wiley, windy moors
We'd roll and fall in green.
You had a temper like my jealousy:
Too hot, too greedy.
How could you leave me,
When I needed to possess you?
I hated you. I loved you, too.

Bad dreams in the night.
They told me I was going to lose the fight,
Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering Heights.

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
Come home. I'm so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
Come home. I'm so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Ooh, it gets dark! It gets lonely,
On the other side from you.
I pine a lot. I find the lot
Falls through without you.
I'm coming back, love.
Cruel Heathcliff, my one dream,
My only master.

Too long I roam in the night.
I'm coming back to his side, to put it right.
I'm coming home to wuthering, wuthering,
Wuthering Heights,

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
Come home. I'm so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
Come home. I'm so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Ooh! Let me have it.
Let me grab your soul away.
Ooh! Let me have it.
Let me grab your soul away.
You know it's me--Cathy!

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
Come home. I'm so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
Come home. I'm so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
Come home. I'm so cold!

For the literary challanged, "Wuthering Heights" is a novel by Emily Bronte published in the mid 1800's. The story tells of the doomed relationship between Catherine and Heathcliff. Early in the tale, it's suggested Catherines spirit still roams Wuthering Heights, knocking at the windows, trying to get in.

Good material for a song, but it sounds a bit too pop for my tastes. There's nothing haunting or lost here. The lyrics require much more care and treatment. Curious what another singers take would song like.

This song is by Kate Bush, not Pat Benatar.

Don't know 'bout Kate Bush, but I do know Pat had this on her 1980 album 'Crimes of Passion'. One of my favorites from that LP.

I just read the wikipedia plot of "Wuthering Heights". So with that in mind, one thing that seems a bit off, maybe, though I never read the book or watched any of the movies, is that the name Cathy is the name of the daughter of Catherine and Edgar Linton.

Heathcliff was in love with Catherine.

Perhaps in the book/movie, Catherine was also called Cathy for short, but Cathy is the name of Catherine's daughter.

Yeah, it's definitely a Kate Bush original. The song 'Wuthering Heights' first appeared on the 1978 album 'The Kick Inside'. And this song is brilliant... what's amazing is Kate Bush wrote the song only after having seen the 1939 film with Merle Oberon and Laurence Olivier - never once opening the book. That's a testament to how great the film is and to how talented and insightful Kate is as an artist. Pat Benatar's version is great - it stands on its own but is also an outstanding tribute to the original... love it.

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

This song is def a twin to "Unfair" (a song she has been quoted as saying is about falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship) so it is presumably about the same person. Given the references to buying an apartment and not being able to see her love interest "after tonight," it's most likely that she's moving away and she'll "wait a day to break the bad news" (i.e. notifying him that she's leaving once she's already gone). And, of course, the fact that she sees in him a fellow "idealist" and "dreamer" (terms commonly given to people with the INFP personality on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)) portends that she'll always be left wondering if they would've been perfect together.

Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
