Beneath this wave
I just can't take your breath away
You cut me down
You know I'll always be around
So now I wait
I know you'll live another day

Come and take my breath away
Look me straight in the face

Cause you know it's over
Growin' colder
I need something
Leave me next to nothing

All we ever wanted
I need something
Leave me next to nothing
Next to nothing

I cut you down
I know you'll always be around
So now you'll wait
I know you'll live another day

Come and take my breath away
Look me straight in the face

'Cause you know it's over
Growin' colder
I need something
Leave me next to nothing

All we ever wanted
I need something
Leave me next to nothing
Next to nothing

I'll try this; I may be wrong. I most likely am. But here's what I think

"I just can't take you're breath away" He loves this girl, but she isn't showing any sign of interest in him

"You cut me down" She totally disregards his love for her and he feels like he will never exist to her

"But I know you'll always be around" He knows someday he will have his chance with her, he just needs to keep trying and she'll come around

"So now I wait, I know you'll live another day" He's waiting for her, but is slowly starting to get over it.

"Come and take my breath away" He knows they could be great together, so he decides to wait a little longer for her to realise it.

"Cause you know it's over, growing colder" He is starting to lose interest, he realises he can't wait around all his life for her to realise he's the one for her

"All we've ever wanted I need something, leave me next to nothing" He needs to be loved and to love, and if since can't get that from her, he starts to move on.

"I cut you down I know you'll always be around So now you'll wait I know you'll live another day" Now it's the opposite. He's finally managed to get completely over her, and NOW she comes around. He doesn't love her anymore, and if she had realised he was perfect for her a little earlier, they could have been very happy. He decides to let her wait, just like she did for him.

Cause you know it's over Growin' colder I need something Leave me next to nothing All we ever wanted I need something Leave me next to nothing Next to nothing

EXCELLENT SONG! Hope I got it somewhat right.

"i need something, leave me next to nothing" i never got this fully, until last night. He lost her and he wants her... any bit of her he can get of her is enough he just has to have something.

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
