It started again
Claimin' a friend
I couldn't be
I've never been
I'm all alone
Out in the cold
I'll never know
Your sugarcoat
You're ready to blow
You're ready to go
But I'll never know
Your sugarcoat
Is just as sweet as I am

[Chorus]
Look what you did
Suck on your lies 'til your eyes turn red
What did you say
Willing to drown in a tidal wave
Take me away
Let me believe that you're on your way
Look what you did
Suck on your lies 'til your eyes turn red

I'm on the floor
Battered and bored
You got a taste
I can't ignore
I'm all alone
Out in the cold
I'll never know
Your sugarcoat
You're ready to blow
You're ready to go
But I'll never know
Your sugarcoat
Is just as sweet as I am

[Chorus: x2]

Red
Your eyes are red

This song is called "Sugarcoat" and it is the hardest song on the album. Ironic?

I think its about someone who loves a girl and he sees them switching partners alot. (It started again Claimin' a friend I couldn't be I've never been)

he wishes he could be with her and he stands outside during winter staring in at her through her window wishing. (I'm all alone Out in the cold)

He realises that he'll never know her innocence and this saddens him and makes him feel empty. (I'll never know Your sugarcoat)

Then one day she chooses him and tells him they'll run away and live together. but he still feels the emptienss from not knowing her innocence. (You're ready to blow You're ready to go But I'll never know Your sugarcoat)

there are signs like this all through the song but i dont want to spend too much time writing this one as im writing as many as i can.

thats just my opinion about this song.

I think that he means that he wants to be with someone that will not let him. He then realizes that she is not nearly as nice as she seems. He still wants her because he sees that wonderful exterior and can't help but want her, even after she hurts him over and over again.

i think's it's vulnerability. being desperate enough and lonely enough to fall into someone else's dark and dangerous world. he becomes over the top in it,worse than his friends, and realizes his friend is just is horrible for letting him turn into them, and he's really rebelling against them.

    sounds like a movie,doesn't it?

Basically girls messing with your head. Being teases, rejecting you after leading you on. People pretending they like you when they don't give a shit about you. This is a "screw you" song to all of the people who act sweet but are evil. People who carry disguises and talk behind people's backs. Fake and phony people.

    LOVE the hardcore of it.

i think it's about vulnerability.like, being out in the cold- and some not-so-great person will take them in. they get involved in some bad shit with that person-and they realize that beneath that person isn't great like they thought when the person took them in. so that person's angry at what they did for letting them, watching them, and making them feel as if they needed to be do that thing.

and yes it is ironic that it's called sugarcoat and it's the hardest.

but the whole world is irony, isn't it?

As far as I can tell, it's about pretending to be someone you're not, or at least pretending to care about someone. The sugarcoat makes them seem nice, but inside, they aren't so sweet. People like that piss me off, so if I wrote a song about it, it would be loud like this, that's why it's the hardest on the album.

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
