Would I use them to get back on track?
Stop to warm at karmas burning
Or look ahead, but keep on turning?
To know how I'll go?
Can I find it inside
To deal with what I shouldn't know?
Would I use them to get back on track?
This search goes on, this search goes on
Frantic tick tick tick tick tick tick tock
An endless stream of fear that I've made
Treading water full of worry
This frantic tick tick talk of hurry
To know how I'll go?
Can I find it inside
To deal with what I shouldn't know
An endless stream of fear that I've made
This search goes on, this search goes on
Frantic tick tick tick tick tick tick tock
Determines by deathstyle (Life is pain)
A rising tide (Death is pain)
That pushes to the other side (It's all the same)

This song annoyed me at first, but boy does it grow on you. I couldn't get it out of my head and I really like it.

The song is great. Also, the song is about wanting to know when you will die, and if you did know what day or exact date you would die, would you regret wasting time or actions you've taken in the past, or would you make the most of it.

thanks to drop2 for the lyrics
I think all of you are missing the point of the lyrics. When you watch the dvd some kind of monster, it was spelled out quite frankly that James had an alcohol problem. After rehab is when he wrote the song. He is looking back at his life and if he kept going on the way he did with the alcohol it would have resulted in a kind of death that he did not want. I think he is singing more than literally dying. Death could mean losing his family and everything that he holds...

Or it could mean that he doesnt want to die because of an alcohol addiction.

basically just looking back on what you could have changed....mainly bad times "could i have my wasted days back?"...can i fix what's wrong?

This song is great...however...the lyrics above are incorrect. Here's how it really goes.
If I could have my wasted days back Would I use them to get back on track? Stop to warm at karmas burning Or look ahead, but keep on turning?
Do I have the strength To know how I'll go? Can I find it inside To deal with what I shouldn't know?
Could I have my wasted days back Would I use them to get back on track?

for one the lyrics above are wrong...in the actual song it is talking about the ysteries of deat and wondering how you will die "Do i have the strength to know how I'll go Can I find it inside to deal with what I shouldent know" The person in the song in obsesed w/ finding out how he will die"Keep searching, Keep on Searching...This search goes on...This search goes on"
That is my imput Lance-o Aka: Metallica Freako
Actually it makes more sense if you interpret it as looking back at what you've done and what you could have done to change it. Just watch the Some kind of a monster documentary

Sorry fixed my spelling errors

The lyrics pretty much speak for themselves. In the part "Do I have the strength, or do I let go? " I think he is contemplating either carrying on treading through the supposed waters of worry or caving into death. The fast and furious riffs emphasize the frenetic nature of the song. It was interesting to watch the guys rehearsing on the bonus DVD... Robert Trujillo has definitely added his unique edge to the band. It's good to see the guys gettin back to their faster, harder shit, yet at the same time i hope they don't solely concentrate on it, as i think Metallica are responsible for some of the greatest rock ballads in the history of music, and i'd hate to see that dead and gone... KILL!!!

i see a lot of people say that rob's bass playing is influencial to the band when in actuallity, he didn't even record the bass part on the album. he did on the dvd but the bass you hear on the cd is bob rocks. rob wasnt even a part of the band yet when this was recorded. even then hes not really adding much different than bob did.
