All i feel, everything i am not today
So i try and i try to make everything right
I dont feel like i am doing it, it affects me
You woudlnt listen even if i told you
Who the fuck am i to say?
Your too busy with the lies they sold you
Another cure to fix your day
Open wide for all the shit they feed you
While the TV defecates
And blindly walk wherever they will lead you
While the edges slowly fray
What i need is to open up again
So never again will i look back in vain
Cause todays not the past
I dont need to relive it
Ive given all i can
And are you pacified
Or do you want more from me?
Just a line between the pleasures and the pain
i agree, aaron lewis (the leed singer) has a very powerful affect when he sings the word fuck, you feel his own sorrow and pain. its truly a wonderful song
Oh yeah everytime I listen to this song I feel that in Aaronbut I like how he does it he ain't taking no shit.

A powerful, powerful song. This song screams to me, "Take a look at yourself & what's around you, don't take everything at face value" He's given everything he humanly has, and it's still not enough to some, his advice, support & help.
Song reminds me of Open Your Eyes with the whole TV thing about don't believe everything you hear & not to get so wrapped up in our society's BS.
I have to once again agree with saroknight. Not until I read the lyrics did I realize how powerful this song is.
People don't find the answers in other people's words. Everyone carries within them a sense of truth, but at the same time you really need to listen to others. I know this sounds so contradictory, but that seems to be the way this song goes. That there are people who look so desperately for answers about them they at times shut out the answer that they needed to hear so badly. That maybe someone close to you is trying to tell you something you really need to hear. But you shut them away, take advantage of their help, only to find yourself struggling looking to buy your way through life.
I'd like to add another little interpretation to this song. This world is so built on proof, with "experts" in a million-and-1 areas preaching and pushing their beliefs on others.
I see this as a powerful line: "You woudlnt listen even if i told you Who the fuck am i to say?"
Back when Aaron wasn't "somebody" people didn't believe him. He knows his own strength and his own heart enough to spread his love in the right directions. But people won't take it. And they ridicule him for it. They'd rather put their faith in those that have supposed degrees and certifications ... despite the lies they spread.
"Are you satisfied? Ive given all i can And are you pacified Or do you want more from me?"
Are you happy with what you've been told? That I've helped with all my heart as much as I can but you reject it.
to me this song sounds like aarons trying to send a message to an old friend who wouldnt listen to his advice or to him in general and he basically feels like 'u riun your life and i'll hafta let u do it' but he wants to help them. just the way i hear it =) i love this song, just an instant click with me.
"while the edges slowly fray" is everything this song is about in one sentence. It means that the outer edges are bein destroyed and it isnt a big deal until the frays get bigger and bigger until it consumes everything. Its a great song about not noticing yourself and society deteriorating slowly
it's aimed at society, how people just go through life blindly accepting whatever they're told by their "wonderful" leaders, parents, teachers, etc.
"You're too busy with the lies they sold you Another cure to fix your day Open wide for all the shit they feed you While the TV defecates And blindly walk wherever they will lead you While the edges slowly fray "
and how there are they few who rise up, say 'fuck this', yet nobody listens to them, they just keep following
"You wouldn't listen even if i told you Who the fuck am i to say?"
Lyrically speaking, it reminds me of Offspring's Staring at the Sun.
I think this song is about how the individual goes outside everyday into the toxic atmoshere of society, and is slowly mutated my it's corruption. The individual is led around by the media's BS, and whoever will sell them something to "fix thier day". "Edges slowly fray" means that after a while, the toxic atmoshere of society will become the new standard, instead of reality. This song gives me images of a future where the whole world is like Vegas, except with no moral boundaries whatsoever, and no one knowing any better. i'm glad aaron put this song out there where the people who need to hear it can hear it.
"But i won't be burned by the fire in your eyes as you're staring at the sun"
iquit is right, these songs kick ass and go hand in hand.
This song means a lot to me. If Aaron Lewis has(or had) BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder, which I suspect), then this song would be all about what it's like in most areas, and about his journey to recovery.
"I know everything can change, what I need is to open up again" - That's saying to me that recovery is possible through therapy, but first you have to bite the bullet and open up again, no matter how hard it is or you'll never get better.
"Are you satisfied? I've given all I can." - Think we can all relate to this one.. where it feels like nothing you ever do is good enough and you continuously run on empty.
Backtracking in the lyrics a bit... "I know that it never goes away, all I feel.. everything I'm not today" - Not being able to accept yourself, and hating yourself, blind to all your accomplishments only puts the icing on the cake. BPD people suffer from a "lack of emotional skin". A small insult that most can shrug off is something that those with BPD cannot. The neverending search for perfection and self-acceptance continues...
And about the chorus: I'm thinking that the "lies they sold you" is about religion and most other things that people are suckered in to because they feel the need to believe in something that will make them feel better and more secure. The TV line is straight forward.. watch the news, sit back and either A) Take all the bad, scary news in that they want you to hear (because bad news sells) and convince yourself that the world's a scary place, or B) Turn the TV off and realize that there's always something going bad in the world somewhere and always has been. The world's not getting worse, media coverage is just getting more and more widespread, selling you the bad, evil news that you want to hear to give you some excitement in your life (or to get massive ratings for their show).
I've ranted enough, but back to the song: By the end, it sounds like he's learnt that even the toughest battle can be beaten and that life should be enjoyed, not endured.
