Taking Over Me Lyrics

You don't remember me,
But I remember you.
I lie awake and try so hard,
Not to think of you.
But who (who) can (can) decide,
What they dream ?
And dream I do...
I believe in you.
I'll give up everything just to find you.
I have to be with you, to live, to breathe,
You're taking over me.
Have you forgotten all I know,
And all we had ?
You saw me mourning my love for you,
And touched my hand.
I knew you loved me then.
I believe in you.
I'll give up everything just to find you.
I have to be with you, to live, to breathe,
You're taking over me.
I look in the mirror and see your face.
If I look deep enough.
So many things inside that are just like you are taking over.
I believe in you.
I'll give up everything just to find you.
I have to be with you, to live, to breathe,
You're taking over me.
I believe in you.
I'll give up everything just to find you.
I have to be with you, to live, to breathe,
You're taking over me,
(You're taking over me),
You're taking over me,
(Taking over me), Taking over me.

Amy Lee had a little sister that died at the age of 3.

"You don't remember me, but I remember you I lie awake and try so hard not to think of you"

"I believe in you I'll give up everything just to find you I have to be with you, to live, to breathe You're taking over me"

This basically is her way of saying she wants nothing more than to be with her sister again.

Everyone is entitled to thinking what they want about what the meaning behind a song really is, but Amy Lee has written a few songs about her little sister and how much she misses her little sister.

I was thinking it was some sort of religious message, but this makes perfect sense. She says at one point, "I look in the mirror and see you."

@Kraneni I TOTALLY AGREE!!!

This is my personal interpretation, you don't agree, fine. This is just what I feel what it's saying.

Someone keeps remembering someone else (their soul mate, past life lover, etc.) and can't get him/her out of his/her head. He/She has a feeling that he/she might be going crazy (after all, how can you remember someone you've never met?) but since his/her life is without love, he/she believes in the existance of this soulmate/reincarnation. And this belief grows into an obsession ("taking over me") to the point where he/she is looking for this person because he/she believes that life isn't worth living without this special someone. In the lines where she sings "Have you forgotten all I know and all we had" plays upon my theory that he/she is wondering why his/her soulmate has not come searching for him/her. But deep within him/herself, he/she realizes that he/she is going crazy from want of love ("you're taking over me, I look in the mirror and see your face").

Thanks death_cry, I couldn't have said it better (I more or less share your interpretation). I can easily link this to a feeling I sometimes have, so this song has some kind of special meaning to me. Like something/someone's missing but you don't know what...

Not Valid

actualy i thought this song is about finding the one of her dreams. she remembers him from her dream and "I believe in you. I'll give up everything just to find you." means i know youre out there and im going to find you. atleast thats what i think. but i could just be relating it to my life.

Not Valid

@Death_Cry I like your interpretation of the meaning of the lyrics for the song, Your introduction was point on, in my opinion. But first, I am going to read all the other opinions that have been written to the song before I provide the in depth meaning for the lyrics.

God bothers eh! You guys can see deity in anything.

It's nice that people are seeing love and cuddles in this song, but it seems clearly to be about an obsessive person. I suspect that it would be Amy-Lee's experience with a single or maybe even an amalgam of Evanescense fans.

Take the first verse: "You don't remember me, but I remember you I lie awake and try so hard not to think of you"

It speaks of someone in the first person. The person is aware of another who, in turn, is not aware they exist - such as a fan and Amy.

Then there is the chorus: "I believe in you I'll give up everything just to find you I have to be with you To live, to breathe You're taking over me"

Obsessing much?! Or perhaps fanatical.

Next we have this: "Have you forgotten all I know, and all we had"

Note the "all I know" ('I' being the pronoun to note) and then the switch to 'we' in the "all we had". The statement suggests an obsessive fan that Amy has never met and so has no shared experiences except perhaps a concert the fan has attended. In other words the fan knows a lot about Amy, but of course Amy knows nothing of the fan.

Lastly there is: You saw me mourning my love for you, and touched my hand I knew you loved me then

Can't you just picture it. Some fan looking needy, so Amy sings an autograph book, hands the book back to the fan and the briefest of hand touches is had... Oooh! Sounds like true love to me.

Anyway I can't see a flaw in my logic. Songs are just about experiences after all. Lithium, for example, is about her sister whom uses lithium because of a condition she suffers (saw an interview - not psychic).

@oneWithTheEarth sorry to burst your bubble but I see many flaws in everything you wrote up until you making reference of another song, Lithium. Stay tuned for an in-depth meaning of the lyrics, if you care.

It's funny how people think everyone else is stupid just because they don't agree with their own opinion. It's an OPINION. Everyone is entitled to one. Deal with it.

I find this song very moving, as I am in a similar position myself. It describes how desire for someone else can make it almost impossible to live life when everything you see or hear reminds you of that person. You need that person to fill a void in your life.

It' about obsession with someone that loves so much it occupies her brain in a way that she stands still daydreaming about it, thus losing control aka "taking over me". Kthnxbye.

I love this song...I love this whole album, actually! This song means more to me than anyone could ever know. This describes my current situation, which to say the least is odd. I'm in love with a man who has lost his identity. He moved out & I miss him dearly. I see him all the time in waking & sleep & I can't live without him. I believe that one day he can find himself & we can be happy once more. Amy Lee does rule!

OMG! this is oneo my favorite songs, i cant believe no ones commented. I dont know what it means, but to me this song is about 2 people who knew eachother a while back, and one is very in love with the other, and later they meet and they are still in love with that person, but the person still doesnt love them and everything reminds that person of the other person

DementedCheezze, You said it best when you described this song. That is the same way I feel about the song. It has such a strong meaning in my life because I can relate to that so much and I didn't think anyone else got the same meaning out of this song.

this is prlby one of my fav songs off the album.some of the songs on it remind me of a fantasy book about morgan le fay for some reason... but to me their songs just seem like fairy tale fantasy songs and you just get lost in their story. i love the line:"you saw me mourning my love for you,and touched my hand,i knew you loved me then" its just so bittersweet...LOVE THIS SONG!!
