Picture Perfect

My god, this song is one of my all time favourites, the story of my young life. "Please take me away, i don't want to stay And I want to see everything the world has to offer me I want to show everything I have to offer it now"

Just a lovely song, that makes me lament the direction Nelly's taken recently. When a person has to veer from making records like this to shallow "tunes" like "Maneater" and "Promiscuous"...it's a damn shame.

Love the lyrics: "So you made an oil painting to inmortalize All of the hope and vision in your eyes."

Just suggests that even this amazing guy she wants to run away with still has his insecurities.

And, of course, I adore the little guitar solo after the first chorus...sublime stuff.

yeah.. her new album is a big disappointment compared to Folklore. This is definitely one of my favourite songs ever.

i think this song deals with the yearning to be with someone who you strongly love and admire everything about... and realizing that you want to leave this disappointing life you're stuck in behind, and go away with them to a place where you can both be. i don't know, it has a lot of layers... a beautiful song.

i agree its about this admiration for this one person you love, but all they want to do is escape and you want to go with them.

I see the point the previous points are making but I think there is more there that has not been acknowledged. For one, the heavy theme behind 'Folklore' was about Nelly going back to her roots and talking about growing up in Canada from an immigrant Portuguese family.

There is this idea of wanting to integrate into the North American culture and the alternatives many immigrant families in Canada and the US must face because of economic and social circumstances.

The line that gets me... "The thrift shop so clean all for half what you'd pay So you try everything on, on for size" ...because my mother being an immigrant to the US would tell me how her family often had to go to thrift shops because it was cheaper and there were so many children to buy for.

Also when Nelly sings about wanting to go or be taken away, it's as if she's announcing her want to be part of this new culture. It's a beautiful song, and while her new album has taken a hip hop turn she is still one of the most original artists out there.

I just love this song very much. I guess both meanings of wanting to go with somebody you admire/love and wanting to integrate into North American culture are applicable to this song. The chorus is just beautiful. It really gets me.

i just thought of this, but i think the song is supposed to be through the eyes of a young person (most likely guy) in a forgiegn country who wants to go the the US or something like that. It has this whole american dream type feel. The guy starts off seeing this amazing country where everybody has a better life (like in a 'magazine or travaling book') and wants to go thinking he is meant for so much more than what his country could offer. He gets a 'job lifting cement', a low paying and hard job that most immagrants have to take. a lil bit confused with some references, like 'the village was great but now its a suberb'...maybe signifying disapointment from what should be good (development) yeah...so the song i think is pretty much about the american dream not being EVERYTHING its cracked up to be but it still seems like the guy is happy...i gues its just about someone trying to find their 'picture perfect' dream. throughout the Folklore albumn i think there's this whole feel of being an immigrant and sticking to your roots and all that, kinda like what SEBAS88 said. for eg, in saturdays she sings 'I hit my head and dream of the city' so dreams for a better place is a huge theme i think... sorry for the ramble or if you completely disagree!

the lyrics of teh song are great but the guitar in the song is amazing....its sounds so somber ...this is her greatest song in every aspect
