No one's asking to go dancing its not like that anymore
Its romantic if they mean it when they shut your fingers in the door
Its a gory sort of story that's been told a hundred times before
It gets tricky don't be picky if the slipper fits you wear it whore

How many tips can I take home tonight without them getting mad
How many stitches do you think it takes to fix a cut that bad
How many minutes until midnight and you get your eyesight back

not to knock it I've been off it never moving very much at once
Its been awkward I still offer it when its that time of
Other girls shower but I give out flowers
To curious strangers who throw dollars at my feet

how many crimes can I try spotting dry before it leaves a stain
How many times say that I love you til it doesn't mean a thing
How many fittings must I sit through with my big feet blistering
How many times until it strips me and my big mouth strikes again

I'm not asking to go dancing I'm not that dumb anymore
Its exhausting to keep smiling when your toes are bleeding on the floor
Its a gory sort of story that's been told a hundred times before
Don't be sorry just ignore me because honestly
I'm too sore from fitting exactly to ride into setting suns aching to
Stand on my own two feet

how many wishes do I still have left to fix the way it ends
How many princes do you think
It takes to put a girl like this back together again
How many instances can you point out where I was less than kind
How many happy endings do you need to change your fucking mind
And how much time do we have left before it's midnight and
You see that I was never the right size?

This is on one leverl, like a kind of anti-Cinderella Story,

The fairy godmother puts the slipper on Cinderlla, she puts on a happy face "its exhausting to keep smiling when your toes are bleeding through the floor", and afterwards, the slipper fits leading to a happy ever after.

In glass slipper, the show is too small, and though, metaphorically she tries to fit it time and time again it never works.

A lot of dresden dolls have a kind of childlike wonder to them, his one simply because of the reference to the fairy tale; it asks the questions "Why didn't my prince charming come?" "why didnt the shoe fit me?"

    Very Similar to Perfect fit.

This song reminds me of Fight club when Marla says

"A condom is the glass slipper for our generation. You slip one on when you meet a stranger. You dance all night, and then you throw it away. The condom, I mean, not the stranger. "

"How much time do we have left before it's midnight and you see that I was never the right size?" Maybe she's so used to people finding fault with her that she can't stop anticipating it now - that it would be impossible for anyone to like her because so many people have misunderstood her.

this is one of my favorite songs of dresden dolls, and tiz a shame that so many people don't know of it. tiz similar to perfect fit in many ways (just look at the similar lyrics). i think that she is just trying to push everyone away because she knows nothing will work out right because it is too late to save herself, but she is still secretly hoping that one day she find her prince charming... even if she won't admit it. however, she has been used by so many men in the meantime (and there are lines to show that she may be a prostitute or stripper) and she has given up all hope. it's very sad :( her entire life has become a lie

I think it's a sort of resignation to not having better....? The girl knows that she's good for nothing (a whore or something similar) and she's not going to wait around for her prince and fairygod mother. And there are lines referring to abuse, so maybe abusive relationships are the only kind she can get involved in. I also think it could be a girl (the whore/stripper) telling someone who is trying to help her that it is no use... and that the person cannot be a prince if she is not Cinderella.

I really like this...I took it to be about the beginning of a relationship, where the first impressions are all you have, and they're usually much better than the person actually is. It struck me as talking about the stage where you get past the honeymoon phase, and the mask slips; she cant go on pretending to be better than she is, so the other half has to realise that she "was never the right size"

To me this song means that she's trying to hide her ego to someone (feet=ego because they're ugly) and when she says that they're blistering, and to me that just that she's cracking and it's getting harder and harder to hide who she is and she's worried the person will find out that she wasn't who she said she was

She's from Boston. There is a strip club called the glass slipper. I'm fairly sure it influenced this song. Not telling why!

Ave Grave
Thee More Shallows
So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new. This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus. Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness". The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1. All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy. And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns) There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.

Corpse I Fell In Love With
Gadjits, The
He reuses the verse melody from the previous album's "Dirty Little Religion", the topics of the verses are all over the place, and he packs too many words into one line (goes to show...) and too few in another (it's pretty hard to find), and rhymes "Henley Regatta" with "Persona non grata", but gets away with it all as only he could.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
