when i first heard this song i always thought it was about watching someone or something die, and turning to drugs until reaching the same fate
the first 'white light's represent the deaths that the person saw, the alcohol being the introduction of drugs and the last white light being that person's own death due to substance abuse. the repetition of that verse symbolized the same thing happening to the next person, someone who was effected by the last person's demise. it keeps going.
I like the way this song plays out in that it starts off with what sounds like some hyped up guy just starting his own wild and crazy song, much like we all do.
What I mean to say is he just sings "white light" and makes the guitar, bass, and drum noises all with his mouth, as though he's forming it, and then what he is thinking slowly comes to life as the instruments actually start to appear...
Anyways, onto the song's meaning.
As much as I hate to say it, b/c I know its been said often and has pissed off a lot of people, I have to say that this song sounds like a song about cocaine or some sort of drug, maybe even just alcohol (b/c he says alcohol). If anyone has bought the CD, look on the inside jacket cover, it shows some drunk bum holding up what looks to be a new type of energy drink but it says something like 500 ml, 100% proof. If anyone knows ANYTHING about alcohol, the proof is how much alcohol is in said volume, well 100% means...ITS ALL ALCOHOL. Hell, the more I think about it, the more I feel its about drinking and what not, but I keep wanting to say cocaine b/c thats the only thing that I can think of that can be described as a "white light". But perhaps i'm trying to be too literal...

I don't think that it is a quesion of either or. I think this song shows the temptation of partying outside and it definitely feels like the person singing is outside on a Saturday/Friday night. The rythm definitely and the way the words are spoken convey the way the man consumes coccaine and alcohol and then there is a bit halway through where there is a tranquil noise and this could be showing how all this consumption only leads up to a little bit of peace.
I would also point out how this is another song that have cropped up in Blur albums before, which are short and punchy, such as 'Bank Holiday' and 'We've got a file on you'
Also I have just heard on BBC radio 1 an interview with Damon on this album, 'Demon Days', and he says that the album is like a conversation with Demons until the last song, also called 'Demon Days', which is the coming out of this nightmare or whereever this meeting is occuring.
in the explicit album, the can says "CRACK BOOZE" under the logo.

in my opinion the song is about how alcohol kills because if you think about the symbols there is the white light meaning heaven and alcohol meaning well you know.in order for you to die you need alcohol.and the drinks name is white light because you drink it to see the white light.(this is my opinion you have the right to express your opinion)
Haha, I don't think there's much depth to this, it's just an ode to White Lightning, which is the only cider you can drink and also unblock your sink with.
Having said that, the drunks round here seem to prefer an EVEN CHEAPER cider called White Storm. Also, they tend to look reminiscent of the guy in the picture that goes with this song.

i dont really know what the song means but when hes sayin "white light alcohol alcohol alcohol" he sounds desperate, like hes lookin for a fix. That is all i have to say.
