Demon Days Lyrics

In demon days, it's cold inside
You don't get nobody, people sigh
It's so bad, lasting far, but love yourself
Hiding in a hole in there
All the glasses are too big
Bring it back, got to hold it back
To let you do that yet you don't want me back
Before it fall down, falling down falling down
Falling out to go far from the sun

Well these demon days are so cold inside
It's so hard to live, and so to survive
You can't even trust the air you breathe
'Cause Mother Earth wants us all to leave
When lies become reality
You numb yourself with drugs and TV
Pick yourself up it's a brand new day
So turn yourself round
Don't burn yourself, turn yourself
Turn yourself around to the sun

Well these demon days are so cold inside
It's so hard to live, and so to survive
You can't even trust the air you breathe
'Cause Mother Earth wants us all to leave
When lies become reality
You numb yourself with drugs and TV
Pick yourself up it's a brand new day
So turn yourself round
Don't burn yourself, turn yourself
Turn yourself around to the sun
To the sun, to the sun
To the sun, to the sun

To the sun, to the sun
To the sun, to the sun
To the sun, to the sun
To the sun, to the sun
To the sun, to the sun
To the sun, to the sun
To the sun, to the sun
To the sun, to the sun
To the sun, to the sun
To the sun, to the sun
To the sun, to the sun

I think this song is the "conclusion" (or so to speak) to the main track on the album 'Feel Good Inc.', and the track that the reflects the entire point of the album. As reflected in the video for Feel Good, the album in general is about people who are basically good and their struggle to find the path to light through all the darkness and evil.

I mentioned Feel Good earlier because the message it portrays sets it self up for the track 'demon days'. As seen in the video, 2D is stuck in a dark place surrounded by sin and wickedness, and the closest thing to light he has is a glimpse of Noodle in the sun playing her guitar.

I think that while 'Feel Good Inc.' shows us that we can observe light while in darkness, 'Demon Days' reminds us that the light can be ours if are able to persevere. However, dire consequences await those who blindly follow darkness without hoping to escape to the light, as suggested in "Fire coming out of the monkey's head".

Another very interesting thing I noticed about the song is that the lyrics tell us to not burn ourselves by turning TOWARDS the sun. Common sense would tell us that turning towards the sun would just burn us even more. I think that the word "Sun" in the song has a double meaning. I think it means "sun" in the sense that it's the greatest source of light as opposed to darkness, but at the same time it may also mean "Son" as a reference to Christ, who is the opposite of a demon.

I generaly agree but I dont think it got anything connected to jesus but also both meaning are same

Not Valid

I completely agree with all you're saying, this and don't get lost in heaven are like a conclusion to the album. And "Sun" does have a double meaning, I agree.

Those lyrics are incorrect. The real lyrics are:

In these demon days, it's cold inside You don't get nobody, people sigh It's so bad, lasting far, but love yourself Hiding in a hole in there All the glasses are too big Bring it back, got to hold it back To let you do that yet you don't want it back Before it fall down, falling down falling down Falling out to go far from the sun

Well these demon days are so cold inside It's so hard for a good soul to survive You can't even trust the air you breathe Cause Mother Earth wants us all to leave When lies become reality You numb yourself with drugs and T.V. Pick yourself up it's a brand new day So turn yourself 'round Don't burn yourself, turn yourself Turn yourself around to the sun

To the sun, to the sun (repeat)

The lines that were incorrect before, I marked with a (*).

As for the meaning of this song, I completely agree with BoyNamedTim's post.

As I said in another Gorillaz song (can't remember which one now) I just heard an interview with Damon Albarn on t'radio and it said something about this song being the end of the experience of meeting all the Demons, and coming out into the Daylight.

Maybe it's about taking the information from the demons and actually doing something with it on earth instead of just sitting on that information and forgetting about it when you turn off the music.

I think this song kind of sums up everything the album is about - modern life examined by someone going through a night.

For example the "Mother Earth wants us all to leave" is talking about how we are damaging the environment and all that malarkey and "can't even trust the air you breath" is talking about the lies everywhere, from the media to world leaders and about the paranoia that comes with it. Then again I can';t even hear half the lyrics properly, so I'm probably wrong.

Who here sings this at the top of their lungs whenever they hear this song? Just me? ...Alright then.

@BoyNamedTim I know it's 14 years after the fact but yes, I do sing this song quite loudly, still. :)

Just a small correction I just want to point out:

You can't even trust the air you breathe Cause Mother Earth wants us all to leave When lies become reality You load yourself with drugs and TV

wasn't it "cause mother earth wants us all to leave"?

the song is supposed to make you feel unified at the end

I wanna agree with Nester, and I kind of flinched while listening to this song for the second time, as I noticed the second meaning of the last two lines. I can't imagine that that was Gorillaz's intended meaning, but it would make a whole lot more sense, and it is kind of exciting to think that maybe this was the intention. Turn yourself around to the Son (Christ).

So there it is folks. This world is dark and getting darker, but find rescue in the Son.

it is you numb yourselves with drugs and tv instead of You love yourself because it's easy... some of your comments nearly made me cry...this song is so simple and some people still dont get it...its about the bad times we live in, we all feel powerless but we should turn around to the sun=not stop believing...HOPE...turn round to the son would be cool too...even if murdoc is a satanist damon albarn has always been interested in different cultures, gospel, etc. and he sings to the lord (tender)... people start turning darkness to mainstream...its like darkness, atheism, hopelessness has become the new christianity...we have to turn around to the son...LOVE

This entire album is arguably the most thought out album in history. The entire album is one big story with a message that is both strong and relevant to life today. Throughout Demon Days we are faced with many "demonds" of the world such as "Feel Good Inc." and the strange folk in "Fire Coming out of a Monkey's Head." And now, the album artist want us to know that...

"Yes, there are a lot of problems with the world, but don't worry, there is still hope. We can all help out and things will get better so long as we are not sitting around just complaining about it." And that is seen stronger when you listen to the song and the happy orchestra of sound rising louder and louder throughout the beginning of the song.

This is by far my favorite album out of any band.
