All Alone Lyrics

[Repeat: x24]
All alone

Leviticus
Deuteronomy

Snatch a piece of my wonderin'
Distant-far like yonderin'
Skin of my tooth like
Seat of my boot like
Fly in my soup like
Where's the waitress?
Can I take this, really, can I finish this?
These years and all these creatures

It's my mistake, I'll make it
Jayed up to the boom now make it
Bounce-wiggle bounce-wiggle
Shakin' all them bangs out
Chemical cutthroats
Bound to blow the brain out

Cut to the brain
This ain't no game
I'll show no shame
I'll birth this blame
I'm twisted cain
I'll twist again
I'll push the blade
As plain as day

Known to what these sayers say
Known to what these doers do
It's you and who and you-know-where
We's about to take it there
We's about to make it clear
We happy or we lonesome
The long jump, the beat heart, from start to finish
Ten spoons of spinach
The soul and the spillage
The cup that runneth ovah
Return of the ogre!

[Repeat: x12]
All alone

Close your eyes and see
When there ain't no light
All you'll ever be
Come and save the night
Cause I don't believe
When the morning comes, it doesn't
Seem to say an awful lot to me

Just out of curiosity, has anyone here ever read Leviticus and Deuteronomy? I haven't, but I'm pretty sure that the song is NOT sexual.

I think it is an expression of how Bush felt about the war. It's about punishing the wicked and being completely unsupported in doing so. "Nobody else is going to help me (all alone), and a lot of people think I'm wrong (it's my mistake), so I'll just toughen up (nobody else caught the Popeye reference? Spinach!! Lots of it!!!) and do it myself (again--all alone). If it turns out I was wrong, so be it--at least I took a stand for what I believe in (it's my mistake, I'll make it)."

Side Note-- I think Bush is a total idiot who deserves to be not only impeached, but imprisoned (and--dare I say?--INJECTED!) for what he has done to the American men and women who went to Iraq to die, but you have to admit that it took alot of testicular fortitude for him to do it in the first place. And on top of that he lets gas prices skyrocket? Dude's got the biggest brass pair in history, if you ask me. Too bad he's too dumb to use this trait in a way that would help his fellow man instead of just his fellow oil tycoon.

I completely agree with you!

@FacUtSciam Do I aggree with you? +Yes. +Definitely. +Absolutely. Was this rigged? Nope.

The above comments only reaffirm that you can make ANY song about sex or drugs, if that's what you want to do.

For those who think that this song could be about something else, please consider these alternate lyrics that I found elsewhere. If you listen closely, I think you'll find that they're closer to accurate, and they certainly make more sense than "Its a black man expressing what he thinks in other words its a freestyle..." from above...

All Alone (16x)

Leviticus Deuteronomy...

snatch a piece of my wonderin' distant-far like yonderin' skin of my tooth like seat of my boot like fly in my soup like where's the waitress? can i take this, really, can i finish this? these years and all these creatures it's my mistake, i'll make it j-dub to the boom now make it bounce-wiggle bounce-wiggle shakin' all them bangs out chemical cutthroats bound to blow the brain out cut to the brain this ain't no game i'll show no shame i'll birth this blame i'm twisted cain i'll twist again i'll push the blade as plain as day known to what these sayers say known to what these doers do it's you and who and you-know-where we's about to take it there we's about to make it clear we happy or we lonesome the long jump, the beat heart, from start to finish ten spoons of spinach the soul and the spillage the cup that runneth ovah we turn up the o-god!

close your eyes and see when there ain't no light all you'll ever be come and save the night cause i don't leave when the morning comes, it doesn't seem to say an awful lot to me

Okay. Now that we have THAT out of the way, I'd like to say that to me this song pretty much says "No god. No religion." Let me explain:

Leviticus/Deuteronomy are biblical books of law. What you have to do. What you must never do. In fact, Deuteronomy means the second or repeated law.

The main voice seems to say:

Listen up. I'm going to give a piece of my mind (and I'm barely flying by the seat of my pants). I've got something to complain about.

Now, what he's actually saying is certainly open to interpretation.

But at the end, where he's talking about spoons of spinach and spillage, I believe that he's saying that he, or someone, is trying to justify suffering with the ol' "end justifies the means" method. The cup runneth over goes back to bibilical interp, the thought being that if you give [to God's work] and keep yourself in line, then you'll be blessed so much that you'll have more blessings than you need.

Of course, underneath all of this is the suggestive "all alone" voice. Is it all for nothing? All of this suffering?

Apparently. Close your eyes and you'll see nothing (or perhaps dreams), which is what we amount to. So keep the night from ending. Keep sleeping. Because I don't see god when I see the sunrise. We are all alone.

@dross ive listened to it many times but I still here "due to run a mile"

There have been some good interpretations so far, but I don't think this is about sex, or masturbation. I think it's either about the war in Iraq, or possibly the israelis like alsoa said. Here's my interpretation, being from the perspective of a soldier in Iraq.

The "All Alone"s could be a number of things, possibly feeling alone and lonely, seperated from a loved one who's back home. I haven't figured it out completely yet. "skin of my tooth like seat of my boot like" - really good lines. It's comparing the skin of his teeth (which is incredibly thin) to the bottom of his boots. In other words, he's treading on thin ground. The next step he takes could be his last. "fly in my soup like where's the waitress?" - It's a bad situation, a big mess, and there's no one around to fix it. "can i take this, really, can i finish this? these years and all these creatures it's my mistake, i'll make it" - having doubts about the war, knowing it's probably wrong, but going through with his duty anyway. "shakin' all them bangs out chemical cutthroats bound to blow the brain out cut to the brain" - probably just generic things about fighting and killing as a soldier. The next lines like "show no shame" and "twist this blade as plain as day" are just about doing his duty without regrets. You can probably see how the other lines fit. Martina Topley Bird's verse is probably imagining a lover who is back home, and a time where the fighting will be over and there will be peace.

Tell me if you agree or think I'm totally off.

well this may be too obvious for a gorillaz song, but what if its about loneliness i've noticed you're loneliest when your trying to fall asleep, unsuccessfully you're tired as hell, but sleep won't come, so your mind races and your subconcious dregs up all this unwanted unpleasantness "can't take this really can't finish this" and "it's my mistake i'll make it... chemical cutt-throats bout to blow this brain out" despearation? suicidal thoughts?

the part where noodle is singing i think is the crux of the song because: a)the beat slows b)she starts singing representing a point of contradiction (a dude rapping vs a girl singing) c)the words seem to have more emphasis because they are sung out instead of rapidly rapped out

back to the desperate and lonely theory "Close your eyes and see When there ain't no light All you'll ever be Come and save the night Coz I don't leave When the morning comes it doesn't Seem to say an awful lot to me" when you're at your lonliest you are kinda hopeless and that all comes out in the dark, the dark of the night and the dark when your brain is at its weakest so you think that all that stuff you aren't proud of you cant really believe that you'll ever be anything more and these thoughts don't leave when the sunlight comes so you're stuck with these haunting thoughts of inadequacy

like i said maybe too obvious for a gorillaz song

well that was my take of the song

@tafo I got this from it too, with the image of the morning after the dark and the conflicting and speratic nature of the rap verse contrasting the serene solace.

Also if you're THE tafo from Smash Bros Melee, hi you're awesome

This song is about a guy not being able to ask out a girl he's had a crush on for a long time. Read the lyrics and you'll understand.

-"All alone" Obviously, he is alone.

-"Fly in my soup like, where's the waitress?" He doesn't have anyone to assist him with his problems.

-"Cut to the brain..." He's trying to figure out why he can't do it.

-"Known to what these sayers say, known to what these doers do" It's a lot harder than it seems.

-"10 spoons of spinach" He needs strength to be able to do it.

There's many more...

As for the biblical references, he is praying to god to be able to ask her out. And the part the girl sings is about him dreaming, and how he never wants to wake up because she is there with him.

Make sense now?

Sex and drugs? Where the hell did you guys get that idea from? The rapping doesnt seem to have anything to do with sex n drugs. reading the lyrics again

The "J'd up to the boom" parts seems to be a drug reference if Urban Dictionary is to be trusted.

I don't know Spank Thru, you might be completely of the point and you might be right. I think YOu are in between. Drugs and sex? Where the hell do you guys get these ideas.

I hate that stupid "all alone" chipmunk voice. If it wasn't for that this song would be perfect. Especially the part where the girl sings. This song is most likely about drugs, but then again the Gorillaz never try too hard to make perfect sense.

Cover art for All Alone lyrics by Gorillaz

I dunno. I can't play it loud because of all the bass. I always thought the chipmunk thing was the girl. But yeah, maybe it's not supposed to make perfect sense.
