Out on my window ledge
I don't feel safe
And I stay
Looking down on you

It's out of my hands for now
It's out of my hands for now

I can't just walk away
Be nice to walk away
But I don't feel safe
Get away, all the way up here

It's out of my hands for now
It's out of my hands for now

Oh it is down from here
And down from here
Start to feel insane
Betrayed out here on my window ledge

Our finest hour arrives
See the pig dressed in his finest fine
And all the believers stand behind him and smile
As the day lights up with fire

Let me in
Let me in
Oh it is
I start to feel like I'm crazy
Betrayed, out here on my window ledge

Now our finest hour arrives
See the pig dressed in his finest fine
All the believers stand behind him and smile
Watch, the night light up in fire

Looking down from here
It's out of my hands for now
Out on my window ledge
It's our of my hands for now

So let me in
Let me in

Hearing this song and listening to the lyrics I feel like he is in a burning building that represents a situation he has to deal with. He's feeling betrayed, like noone has the ability to help him down and there is nothing HE can do about it... its out of his hands for now. "Our finest hour arrives See the pig dressed in his finest fine And all the believers stand behind him and smile As the day lights up with fire" This only alludes to the burning building idea. The pig could represent the police or something of an authority figure who does their best to help him, the crowd only able to stand and watch supporting 'the pig'. He feels insane because he is alone on the ledge and not with the others safe on the ground, the ground representing happiness? He can't just walk away because it is a big situation that has to be dealt with. You can't just walk out of a burning building, you have to confront your fears and resolve the situation. So let me in is his cry for help. Anyone agree?

This song is about September 11th from the perspective of the victims on the top stories of the twin towers: Out on my window ledge I don't feel safe And I stay Looking down on you

All the NYPD, FDNY and public could do is watch in horror as the towers came crashing down:

Our finest hour arrives See the pig dressed in his finest fine (reference to the terrorists onboard) And all the believers stand behind him and smile (The believers - terrorists) As the day lights up with fire (Daylight turned into black billowing smoke and fire when the towers collapsed).

Very sad song. DMB rock my world!!

I love this song it is definetly my most fave song. When I heard it I thought that it was during that time when he was feeling low and thinking about jumping. (Then again I didn't know the full lyrics) It must have more symbolism to it though. IE everyone thinks he crazy to say that something is wrong so they immediatly kick him out and he just hopes that soon enough they'll see the problem, because it's out of his hands, for now...

dont you just love the statement..just let me in..in where? in the protective arms of God..

Dave is high above all..witnessing the day of God towards those down below..knowing its a process of judgement and theres nothing he can do for the moment. he will become a part of Gods rtool of the reconciliation of all mankind at a later time..but not today. he only can ask God to protect him...

how do you think he stays in such a positive attitude? you can hear the mercy for those he sees, yet similtaneously this portion of creation is for satan to teach mankind of the knowledge of evil.. later it becomes daves turn to teach mankind the knowledge of good.

its out of his hands for now...but he dos know its not completely out of control of God.

Listen to this song and imagine you're one of those people on September 11th standing on a window ledge with the building burning down below you. That's what the song is about. It's quite chilling.

I'd like to believe it's a song referring to someone trapped in one of the towers on 9-11.

"I can't just walk away Be nice to walk away But I don't feel safe Get away, all the way up here"

Pretty self-explanatory. He wants to leave and be safe at home but can't find a way out.

"Oh it is... down from here And down from here Start to feel insane Betrayed out here on my window ledge"

Going crazy because of all of the thoughts running through his mind. Family, wife, children, whether he'll live or die. Feeling betrayed that our governmental leaders allowed such an act to be carried out.

And my most convincing part to support my meaning.

"Our finest hour arrives See the pig dressed in his finest fine And all the believers stand behind him and smile As the day lights up with fire"

Our finest hour. Our response to this act of violence against the U.S. by declaring war. The "pig" is GWB and all the people who support him feel better for retaliating, in effect causing the same attacks. As the day lights up with fire. The explosion(s) and fire(s) of the impact.

    that's what I think.

I think this song goes more with human charecteritics, like a lot of people when thinking peer out the window or go out onto the balcony possibly to look at the stars or whatever is out there. Most of the time when poeple are doing this they're sad, they're thinking. Maybe Dave is sad about somthing and he's looking out the window looking down at the world. And looking back at Dave's past songs and quotes he possibly is thinking of the state of the world and the u.s. but now he cant do anything.

Maybe....after kerry lost dave thought it was out of his hands for now, he did what he could. mayeb the pis is bush, hur,, I don't know really.

I'm pretty sure that this song is about the re-election of GWB. I have a couple reasons for this. One, "out of my hands" would mean that he has no say now that he has voted and the decision was made. Two, it's possible he feels betrayed by the voting process, or the fact that he tried very hard to get Kerry elected and it failed.

The most convincing argument though, is the four lines about the pig, finest hour, believers and watching the day light up with fire. These same lines can be found in Everybody Wake Up, obviously a song about Bush and the war. The man with the bomb in his hand is the pig dressed in his finest fine... Bush. The believers, those who voted for Bush. Atleast, thats how I saw it.

I think it's just a song about having a decision made for you that you had no control over, where you feel bad because the majority went against what you felt was right, but you have to go on and hope for the best...probably about the election as HDFan said but it could transcend into anything

i read in an article that this song was about moving on with your life after 9/11....knowing that i would have to assume that Dave is referring to Bush in "all the believers stand behind him and smile"

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
