It was in the lobby, when I set my sights on you
Should have kissed you in the elevator
But I was too scared to
It was in the morning, when I made up my mind
I want you staple gunned
Right to my side all of the time
Whoa

[Chorus]

Do I have to spell it out for you
Or scream it in your face
Oh, the chemistry between us
Could destroy this place
Do I have to spell it out for you
Or whisper in your ear
Oh, just stop right there
I think that we've got something here

We all alone when I finally made a pass at you
It didn't work, and no it never does
But you know how I do
We were all alone when I made up my mind
I want you staple gunned
Right to my side all of the time
Whoa

This is the only band in the entire planet, galaxy, world, universe, etc that I have or will ever get a tattoo for. I've heard it a million times, why get a band tattooed on you? what if they break up? Hahaha dillgaf? they saved me a thousand times and then some.

Anyway, this song wasn't intended to be an intense love song. Originally, they wanted to show people that sometimes chemistry isn't always so..safe. People didn't understand the meaning and began to turn into what it's not but then again songs are interpreted as different things to different people. But I just want to let anyone who's listening know what it really means.

Being stappleguned to someone's side ALL of the time, hurts, it suffocates you. Attraction can be explosive in the worst of ways. He's just saying that sometimes it burns so much that it can damage people. "The chemistry between us could DESTROY this place" he doesn't mean destroy with little butterflies and ladybugs, no, no he means destroy as in, a bomb, something that is simply negative. The music video they made is the meaning of this song. They show us abusive relationships, screaming, fighting, tears, ocd, depression, real life situations.

Sometimes wanting a person so badly can turn into something destructive. Maybe they're talking from experience, which I would believe because most if not all their songs are pure experience.

And that's what makes Nick's words so strong, the emotion behind it. He's a masterpiece<3

When I first heard it, I noticed imideatly how different in tempo it was than any other TSC songs I ever heard. To be honest, I wasn't so sure if I was gonna like the change.

But I love it. They way he writes hasn't change at all with the new album. Its still so, I don't even know. He's so good with words. I'ts one of my favorites on One Fell Swoop

He reuses the verse melody from the previous album's "Dirty Little Religion", the topics of the verses are all over the place, and he packs too many words into one line (goes to show...) and too few in another (it's pretty hard to find), and rhymes "Henley Regatta" with "Persona non grata", but gets away with it all as only he could.

Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
