Bigger Boys and Stolen Sweethearts Lyrics
With more of a wit
An easy quipp to enthrall her
And her friends think he's fit
And you just can't measure up no
You don't have a prayer
Wishing you had made the most of her
When she was there
They've got engaged
No intention of a wedding
He's pinched your bird
And he'd probably kick your head in
You're better off without her anyway
You said you wasn't sad to see her go
Yeah but I know you were though
That's all pretty and vain
Likes to go in the sunbed
And stays out of the rain
So that he don't get his hair wet
You wouldn't want that
At least he hasn't got a Nova
Or a Burberry hat
No intention of a wedding
He's pinched your bird
And he'd probably kick your head in
You're better off without her anyway
You said you wasn't sad to see her go
Of course you were
Never did it for me
He picks her up at the school gates
At twenty past three
She's been with all the boys
But never went very far
She wagged English and Science
Just to go in his car
No intention of a wedding
He's pinched my bird
And he'd probably kick my head in, oh
Now the girls have grown
But I'm sure they still carry on in similar ways
So I'm better off without her anyway
I said I wasn't sad to see her go
But I'm only pretending, you know
Yeah, I'm only pretending, you know
Yeah, I'm only pretending, you know
Oh I'm only pretending, you know

There seems to be an alternate second verse... it was on the IBYLGOTD Single...
"You don't know what she's upto You can only assume If she's not on the front of the shops, then They've gone to his room Bet she's gone round in her school stuff Bet that's what he likes I know you thought she were different, And you thought she were nice
But she's not nice She's pretty fucking far from nice She's looking at you funny Rarely looking at you twice"

Heres What The Songs About!
Taken from an interview in The News Of The World 29th Jan 2006. This was an interview with Alex Turner's EX Lauren Bradwell who he dated in 4th year at Stocksbridge High School.
Lauren 20, said "I knew as soon as I saw the lyrics that the song was about me, and Alex admits it."
Alex & Lauren dated for 4 months until Lauren fell for a guy with a Peugeot 405 (hence at least he hasn't got a Nova line). They used to go out runs in the 405 when she was supposed to be at school (She wagged English and Science Just to go in his car). She got engaged to this guy 6 months later which left Alex devastated. They split up eventually cos he treated her badly.
Still on the bright side at least it was an inspiration for this song even if things turned out badly for everyone.

Does anyone know what "He's pinched your bird" mean?
@Aeroblitz Literal translation: "He's stolen your girl" It's only taken 10 years but you finally have your answer.

trumpetoneson i think that it literally means that they got engaged, its not metaphorical. and "he's pinched your bird" bird is just slang for girl he's just saying that he won over your girlfriend love the song! xx

I don't understand why this song would only make sense to English people, Stoned_Immaculate. I know there are words and phrases that wouldn't make sense to many Americans, but the song's clearly about a guy whose girl has been won over by a "better" one. I'm sure that happens a lot, regardless of where it occurs.

so the meaning of the song is pretty simple im pretty sure this is autobiographical and from experience he was dating a girl, the broke up, she went for an older lad. he describes the type of guy he is and how the girls friend think his good looking 'fit'. the part about school is pretty self explanatory, the girl wags and the guy comes and picks her up. when they say 'they've got engaged with no intetntion of a wedding' you would most likely read into it as they are doing it cos its the latest trend. His also saying that although he made himself & others around him believe he wasn't sad to see her go, he actually was. the other version of this song is deffinitly greattt but there both excellent

Track is about a guy (Mr. Turner) whose girlfriend (the stolen sweetheart) was stolen by a douche (the bigger boy). Mr Turner cleverly opens the song by describing his match against the douche's. Later he's talking about how they are fucking around at various places and the rich douche-bag sweeps her from her school pretty straight forward here though put together very well. He's hit the right chord I can completely relate to it, gone through the same, when he says "I said I wasn't sad to see her go Yeah but I was only pretending you know" you just can't move on and it sucks the life out of you but in my story the girl is not a bitch at all she's one of nicest people I've know. Yup thats my story and I'm still stuck though I'll move on soon hopefully :) Fuck this shit I'm done with this.
@Matt8teen I don't want to be the person to say this but... from personal experience (and from various friends and family members too) I can tell you that:

You will never really get over it. Your feelings towards it may change over time but you will most likely avoid similar women so it doesn't happen to you again.

So basically, it will change the way you aproach relationships. Sad, isn't it?

surely everyone can remembe rthe older boys coming down tothe school gates in there cars?
i used to hate them fuckers haha, always in crap cars cos theyare like 18, but you are about 15, so you're still in your uniform and look like a little boy compared to them, when you get to that age, you realise only weirdos who are 18, go out with girls who are still in school.

I think this song is essentially about the dude comparing himself with the douchbag who stole his girlfriend. the deeper look at it shows that the guy has a huge inferiority complex he consideres himself nice but really he's just timid. He feels like he doesn't really have that much to offer but takes solace in that he doesn't have false confidence like the Guido who she's seeing now.

I think its 'an easy quipp to enthrall her' in the first verse
