I´m sorry my last comment on this song was so terrible, see, I have just seen the video and listened this song and it´s so freakin`awesome, Till´s voice is pure energy, and the music, and the laughter. Met it like ten minutes ago and love it already. How could I doubt of them ???

    Unofficial Translation ©2005 Jeremy Williams.

I need time Don't need heroin nor alcohol nor nicotine I don't need help Nor caffeine But I do need dynamite and turpentine I need oil for gasoline [2] Explosive like kerosene With lots of octane and free of lead A fuel like

    Petrol

I don't need a friend Nor cocaine I need neither a doctor nor medicine I don't need a woman, just Vaseline Some nitroglycerine I need money for gasoline Explosive like kerosene With lots of octane and free of lead A fuel like

    Petrol

    Give me petrol

It flows through my veins It sleeps in my tears It leaks from my ears Heart and kidneys are motors

    Petrol

If you want to part with something then you have to incinerate it If you never want to see it again let it swim in petrol Petrol I need petrol Petrol Give me petrol

[1] Petrol is the British term for gasoline; gasoline is the American term for Petrol. [2] "Gasolin" is not a German word, but simply the English word, made German. However, there was a German chain of gas stations called "Gasolin" that only existed for about 20 years.

I really, really wish my German didn't suck as much... I mean, first of all it's one of the three most widely spread languages in the world, and second, I only get, like, a quarter of Rammstein's lyrics... :P You forgot about the "schwimmen in Benzin" part, though, which basically means what it sounds like; To swim around in gasoline. :P

Anyhow... Es ist ein lieb lied, ja. ^^ I agree fully and cpmpletely with what's been said about oil and how the world is dependant upon it.

It's about the world's addiction and dependence on oil obviously. I'm fairly certain the rampaging and ultimately unsuccessful fire truck and its sluggish unkempt crew are meant to represent an aspect of the US administration.

I think that's where the whole meaning of the song is. "let it swim in petrol" - is just a metaphor for some means which you need to forget or to part with something. Till tells bout heroine, friends and so on just to show that "petrol" is not a symbol for them. So maybe it's time what he's talking about. Did it sound at least a little logic? Or it could be about a pyromaniac...

Could be to do with the dependancy on oil and i see where that comes from but i thinks its about a Pyromanic/arsonist... 'Ich brauche Zeit': time to pour petrol/get matches/run from police etc. 'Willst du dich von etwas trennen...' that whole verse is him/her explaining their actions to police/friends/relatives... make sense to any one...?

oh and the 'kein Heroin' and the 'keine Frau' parts are about the buzz he/she gets from starting the fire and that because of that they dont need drugs or sex

This song is def a twin to "Unfair" (a song she has been quoted as saying is about falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship) so it is presumably about the same person. Given the references to buying an apartment and not being able to see her love interest "after tonight," it's most likely that she's moving away and she'll "wait a day to break the bad news" (i.e. notifying him that she's leaving once she's already gone). And, of course, the fact that she sees in him a fellow "idealist" and "dreamer" (terms commonly given to people with the INFP personality on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)) portends that she'll always be left wondering if they would've been perfect together.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
