Remember The Name Lyrics
Yeah, for those of you that want to know what we're all about
It's like this y'all (C'mon)
Twenty percent skill
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will
Five percent pleasure
Fifty percent pain
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name
He just wants to be heard whether it's the beat or the mic
He feels so unlike everybody else, alone
In spite of the fact that some people still think that they know him
But fuck 'em, he knows the code, it's not about the salary
It's about reality and making some noise
Making a story, making sure his clique stays up
That means when he puts it down, Tak's pickin' it up
Never concerned with status but still leavin' them star struck
Humbled through opportunities given despite the fact
That many misjudge him because he makes a livin' from writing raps
Put it together himself, now the picture connects
Never asking for someone's help, or to get some respect
He's only focused on what he wrote; his will is beyond reach
And now it all unfolds, the skill of an artist
Be a hundred percent clear 'cause Ryu is ill
Who would've thought that he'd be the one to set the west in flames
Then heard him wreckin' with The Crystal Method, Name Of The Game
Came back, dropped Megadef, took 'em to church
I like bleach, man, Ryu had the stupidest verse
This dude is the truth, now everybody be givin' him guest spots
His stock's through the roof; I heard he fuckin' with S-Dot
Got him out the dryer he's hot, found him in Fort Minor with Tak
What a fuckin' nihilist porcupine; he's a prick; he's a cock
The type women want to be with and rappers hope he get shot
Eight years in the makin' patiently waitin' to blow
Now the record with Shinoda's takin' over the globe
He's got a partner in crime; his shit is equally dope
You won't believe the kind of shit that comes out of this kid's throat
He knows how to work with what he's got
Makin' his way to the top
He often gets a comment on his name
People keep asking him was it given at birth
Or does it stand for an acronym?
No, he's livin' proof that he rockin' the booth
He'll get you buzzin' quicker than a shot of vodka with juice
Him and his crew are known around as one of the best
Dedicated to what they do and give a hundred percent
It seems like he's never got time
Because he writes every note and he writes every line
And I've seen him at work when that light goes on in his mind
It's like a design is written in his head every time
Before he even touches a key or speaks in a rhyme
And those motherfuckers he runs with, the kids that he signed
Ridiculous, without even trying, how do they do it?

By far one of the best rap songs I've ever heard. It throws away the stereotypical 'gangsta' rap feel. It's really refreshing to see something new like this. Keep it up Fort Minor

It's about how Mike works hard to be as talented he is, instead of paying people to write for him.

Third person self-complimenting is less arrogant and annoying than first person...

i think this is about 1. the coming together of fort minor and their projects and a percentage of what they went through to make the group...
It's just ten percent luck Twenty percent skill Fifteen percent concentrated power of will Five percent pleasure Fifty percent pain And a hundred percent reason to remember the name
- i think it's also saying that other rap/hip-hop artists havn't really got the right stuff but are still famous, but mike shinoda is a legend, he knows what he is doing, and writes lyrics with meaning.
Whether it's Linkin Park or Fort Minor, Mike Shinoda will always... Kick Ass
Fort Minor is basically Mike Shinoda rap persona, so Fort Minor itself is not a group. I think you are getting confused because of how many collaborations there are on the album.

Agreed. That's the whole reason Mike made this record. He'd seen tons of hip hop and rap records already and he wanted to do it his way. To create something new.
He's just trash-talking other artists who care more about the money than the music. Just trying to get his own philosophy across.

it's just a generic "this is me" rapper song, like Eminem's Without Me or Jay-Z's PCA or Snoop's 'Snoop Dogg' or Dre's "Still D.R.E" - the list goes on. It's to try and get you to remember their names and give themselves an identity with their first song (or in Eminem's case, the first song off of every album, pretty much).
there is nothing wrong with Eminem he is an accomplished rapper, and is sick as hell. His songs make since to the people who understand him just like every other rapper. He dosent care if you trash him he's got the skill he's at the top. Fort minor's good but there still a group and Eminem did it (mostly) on his own. Besides Eminem has had problems along with most rappers and for them to make it out and do what they do. Thats an accomplishment on its own. Tupac, was shot for getting out. So the rest i think...

They exell were others failed, and for that they desrve there spot even it is for the money. They can still rap.
Fort Minor isn't a group, it's a project. Mike Shinoda's project, a collaboration with other artists. So no, he did it on his own as well. Also, who are you to say that no one remembers Fort Minor? As long as there's one person out there who still bumps a track from The Rising Tied then someone remembers it. It doesn't matter if it's a million people or one, it still has a lasting influence. As for a generic song, then you clearly need to get out more and listen to the generic crap that pollutes the airwaves. This is far...

meaning is very well hidden in the first line...
no its not 'You ready? Lets go!"
BUT
"Yeah, for those of you that want to know what we're all about ....It's like this"
....10 + 20 + 15 + 5 + 50 = 100... yup its all there...
peace..

This is the first song I heard from Fort Minor at all. I heard it from lptimes.com WWWWAAAAAYYYYYY before the CD came out. Okay, it was only a month before the CD, but anyways. The Fort Minor CD, The Rising Tied, has so much meaning to it! Linkin Park and Fort Minor are the greatest bands because they have meaning (and it does'nt have anything to do with sex! so unlike other rap atrists of this time.) I like picking at the songs and listening over and over and over again to find the meanings to it. Well, anyways, this is the song that made me want to buy The Rising Tied. Peace peoples. No fighting ^_^

^^ I agree, I heard this song and it made me buy the album. It does exactly what the song is designed to do, it gives you a feel for what he and the group are doing. I like how he breaks down the numbers, that's what having passion for music is, all those elements.

This song has so much in it. The chorus is especially uplifting to me. Alot of kids today think that the way to be a great rapper is to just rap and they'll make it. They don't realize that there is WORK, PAIN, SWEAT, TEARS to get famous. He's saying that he has worked so hard, alienated people, stayed to himself, and worked hard. Writing, rapping and fine-tuning his ryhmes.
