Sounds a bit like he is lusting after a woman that he cannot get. She is water - calm, beautiful, at peace. And he is fire... she is swimming in his imagination but is out of his reach. She doesn't know he exists, and when he goes to touch her and make contact, he is burned. She doesn't want him, yet he is totally in love with her.

    My Interpretation

This song immediately seemed to me to be about a submarine stalking a ship and then opening fire and destroying it. I'm going from the translation as to the meaning; I get the feeling of the calm, serene, beauty of the submarine following its victim and then, "a firework from the crotch", is the torpedo etc. being fired.

TLDR: Interplay between submarine and target told via the metaphor of a beautiful woman swimming.

    My Opinion

This is clearly about rapist and his victim

An UNOFFICIAL direct translation is below:

It's beautiful when she swims the breaststroke Then I can see into her core Not that the breast is what's beautiful I just swim after her Sparking dust flows from the center A firework shoots from her crotch

Fire and water don't come together Can't be bound, aren't related Sunken in sparks, I am aflame And am burned in the water Burned in the water

It's beautiful when she swims naked Then I want to see her from behind Not that the breasts are attractive Her legs open like scissors Then from its hiding place, the flame Glows hotly from her thigh-angle

She swims past and doesn't notice me I am her shadow, she stands in the light There is no hope and no confidence

Fire and water don't come together Can't be bound, aren't related Sunken in sparks, I am aflame And am burned in the water Like this, the blood boils in my loins I grab her with wet hands Smooth as a fish and cold as ice She won't waste herself on me I know

Fire and water never come together Can't be bound, aren't related Sunken in sparks, I am aflame And am burned in the water

I don´t know if this song is really about two different worlds, cause i´ve noticed that even when Rammstein songs seem simple, there is really a deeper story.

I agree with sunshine_arakhan, although I don't know whether it's that he is in love with her or whether he's just more infatuated with her physical beauty...

Also, is it just me or does the third stanza sound vaguely like a rape-scene, where he basically describes that he tries to force himself onto her ("I grab her with my wet hands/Smooth as a fish and cold as ice")?

'She swims past and doesn't notice me I am her shadow, she stands in the light' Sounds kind of like a stalker to me, but I agree with Frau that Rammstein's songs are deeper than they seem. I think that the man in the song has fallen in love with the woman but has convinced himself that he isn't good enough for her, leaving himself to watch her, dreaming and wishing that he could be with her.
