Stealing Society Lyrics
Yeah! Alright!
Watching it all, fading,
Two skies,
Living it all, fading,
Two skies,
Watching it all, fading,
Two skies fading, one's abating,
Two suns,
Living it all, dying,
Two suns fighting, one's abiding
Watching them both fighting,
Two suns,
Seeing them both dying,
Two suns,
Watching them both fighting,
Two suns fighting, one's abiding,
Two skies,
Seeing them both dying,
Two skies fading, one's abating
Kind of mix really well in a dead movie star,
When I feel like talking, I'll never be wrong,
If I feel like walking, you best come along
Crack the heat up high,
Till my palms are wet,
And my tongue is dry
That’ll get me high
Just a stupid motherfucker
If I die, I die
I'm a midnight fistfight (x2)
That’ll get me high
Just a stupid motherfucker
If I die, I die
Alright!
I’m looking for a mother
That'll get me high
Just a stupid motherfucker
If I die, I die
Alright!
Looking for a mother
That'll get me high
Just a stupid motherfucker
If I die, I die
‘Cause I’m looking for a mother
That'll get me high
Just a stupid motherfucker
If I die, I die
That'll get me high
Just a stupid motherfucker
If I die, I die
Alright!
(Two skies, two suns, watching them all go)
Yeah! Alright!

I think it's about drugs and their effects on people. Hard drugs are stealing our society and ruining lives.

I think he must of been having a bad day obviously. In life ou almost always have 2 choices. One is the better of the two, but they both seem promising. one is soothing and refreshing(abating) and the other is an enduring sun(abiding). The sun being what you crave most. The sky is your opportunity which both are fading. And dude wants to get high and it doesnt matter what happens to him

I think it might be something like children watching parents fighting, like some domestic abuse with the mother getting hurt, hence later on they're looking for their motherly comfort and turn to drugs. Definitely seems like something like that, a cycle of drugs and violence.

I believe, this part has some relation to religion & how it’s “fading” in today’s generation & questioning of it trying to have control over us I.e
Two skies watching it all, fading Two skies living it all, fading Two skies watching it all, fading Two skies fading, one's abating
It’s obvious that the real “God” is the only great one living in the sky, watching everybody at once (our actions and sins.) Losing faith in those who don’t follow their way. And only one can be right. And how it’s been used too control people.
I think the next part is in relation to the Prodigal Son, Luke 15:11-32. Two sons, living it all Dying, Two sons fighting, Ones abiding, -Guitar- Two sons, Watching them both, Fighting, Two sons, Seeing them both, Dying, Two sons, Watching them both, Fighting, Two sons fighting, Ones’ abiding.
As the tale goes, there was a father, very wealthy; who held two sons, one was very loyal to his father & never left his side; the other was more impressed by alcohol, partying and prostitutes and had moved away to a foreign country & wasted his share of his fathers’ estate.
As it would be a major famine had hit that country & he had nothing, he had asked someone for work, as granted he got work feeding swine but they never fed him, as he grew jealous of the swine he came to a thought that his father has enough bread too feed his servants and some too spare.
He had returned to his father, upon arrival, his father had his servants dress him in the finest robe, sandals and ring and as you could imagine the other son became insanely jealous because he had stuck by his father the longest and his brother had gotten better treatment and the hurt he felt when he put on a major feast for his brother and saying (not quote) “We will slaughter the fattest swine and rejoice; for your brother was once dead and now truly alive” (Alive because he had seen his way back to his FAITH and his father.) Isn’t it weird how a normal human reaction can be considered a sin? (My interp x2)
People dedicate their lives to following & believing their God will look after them. Still die of cancer, unfair causes, etc like Children starving, homelessness. Living their lives believing and praying too go unheard or noticed. While religion is over a multi-billion dollar industry & fuelling wars.
And the next part.
Crack pipes, needles, PCP and fast cars kinda mix really well with a dead movie star, When I feel like talking, I could never be wrong, If I feel like walking, you best come along,
I close my windows, crank the heat up high Till my palms are wet and my tongue is dry I'm looking for a mother that will get me high Just a stupid motherfucker, if I die, I die I'm a Midnight fistfight Looking for a mother that will get me high Just a stupid motherfucker if I die, I die
I feel that what they’re saying here & in relevance to what I said before, with religion becoming less and less, this is how the movie & music industry trying to brainwash us with how “we we should be” I.e Glorification of drugs & partying from Hollywood movie stars, music artists & endorsing this and falling into a trap of addiction and unhappiness winding up, you guessed it, dead, and how common this sort of story is. & it’s considered an honourable way out in a fucked up way. I.e
When I feel like talking, I could never be wrong, If I feel like walking, you best come along.
How people hang on every word that they say, study everything they do to be like said person, being a bad arse, doing drugs and fighting is cool, endorsing that it’s “cool to not give a fuck about yourself.”

hmm mebbe but the 2 skies thing could also b about 2 powers, mebbe america, or mebbe capitalism vs socialism, ooo better idea left wing vs right wing, or perhaps 2 governments... sommat like that. hmm need 2 build on thta idea...
but yeah drugs obviously coming in there, pollution im not sure about.

ok someone up there said something like why would Serj sing an anti drug song when he smokes dope. From what I've heard from various places is System are anti HARD drugs, and dope isn't hard. In the liner notes for the self-titled album it points out that dope is not as dangerous as alcohol or tobacco. Its the harder, more dangerous drugs they take issues with. Also someone said something "System rarely touch on religion" O.o ??? They do, a lot, just subtley. :)
To me this song is how drugs can distort a persons mind and vision and I guess how the dude's seeing two of everything which is like a metaphor at the same time to him wanting to be sober but also wanting to enjoy the trip :)
I specifically like the line "Crackpipes, needles, PCP and fast cars kind of mix really well in a dead movie star" which is basically the source of the anti-drug bit and saying basically look all these movie stars are dead from drugs and living life dangerous and stuff.

For the moment I'll comment on the first four words of the song, because as I see it they are there to set up the concept, period, type of society that System want to talk about and the later verses sung by the guitarist fella.
"Yeah! Alright! Yeah! Alright!"
When I heard this first I thought it sounded exactly like the constantly unoriginal introduction you hear in most modern pop-songs. It's quite prominent in rap and now in "White" pop where you'll hear "Awight, uh, uh, uh yeah, come on, lets get down with this." that sort of bullshit. These horribly pointless introductory pieces where an artists makes provocative noises are what they are trying to take off. They even stop the music just to say the "Alright" and the "Yeah" to make it ultra obvious that they are taking it off. I also think that this is a primary concept for setting the societal period of the song which is quite recent and to the present.
Now starting into the verse "Crack pipes, needles, PCP and fast cars", I think this verse is quite blatant as to what it's conveying. It's describing modern society in all its unfortunate reality. To sum it up crudely, in this world all you're told to look for, all you're worth, the only meaningfulness in it is trying to find the next high, the next thrill, stupidly searching for stardom ("...Movie Stars") or following public personalities in adoration. Becoming bigger than yourself because of that stardom and obviously trying to find bigger ways to bloat out your thrills to the point that you can't even think anymore, just anything goes. "Waiting for a mother that will get me high..." the person is just waiting, not thinking of any repercussions, for someone who will provide him with some kind of thrill (could be drugs, could be anything) "Just a stupid motherfucker, If I die I die" These thrills are so enormous and taking me so far away from sense that, well, if I die - I DIE, I don't care, I've gone past thinking.
"Midnight fistfight" - this reminds me of the macho antics of man and how completley irrational they are. This could remind you of a person that was so high and out of his depth with drugs that he would ask you to shoot him in the head because he had convinced himself that he wouldn't die - "I'm feelin' so good that nothing could kill me". Wanting to fistfight just for the adrenaline, uncaring again of that person and the fact that they'll probably receive a broken nose or more broadly, they'll have a negative impact on society by instigating violence for no other reason than the machismo and thrill of it which breeds more violence. But it doesn't matter, the person can't think anymore - he's looking for a thrill and it doesn't matter what he does to get it. In other words - Irrational society gone haywire all because of irrational construction of society - purposely, to keep people from thinking, to keep them angry at each other, to make them search for dangerous thrills rather than assisting them in developing their mind - that's dangerous - they might think society is worth changing.

its not "blue skies" in the first verse. the liner notes to the album have "two skies"

I think this song is about how pollution and drugs are stealing our society, the first part of the song say's "Two skies", that could refer to a natural blue sky and the other to a polluted black sky. It also say's "one's abating" (correct spelling) meaning its being put to an end, and "one's abiding" (correct spelling) meanings its enduring. The second part of the song is pretty obvious on drugs Stealing Society by saying "If I die I die'

yeah! alright.................lol! anyways! i agree with both of the above. ''If I die I die'' is kinda stating that they dont care if they die.
