Evening Sun Lyrics

They love you or they hate you,
But they won't ever let you be.
They thrill you or sedate you,
But they will never let your see.

In the evening sun.
In the evening sun.

Encourage and derange you,
Watch you walking scared alone.
Despite intimidation,
Pleased to watch you dance alone.

In the evening sun.
In the evening sun.

Go your seperate way now,
Someday you'll come back and i'll be
Dreaming I was sunburned
I don't want to brake your heart in
Break your heart in two halfs
Keep one half and give one half to me
I like the summer, miss the summer
Tell me, what'd you do? Nothing? Me to.

Actors they're pretending
And singers they will sometimes lie.
Kids they're always honest,
'Cause they don't think they're ever gonna die
Oh you're the prettiest, smartest captain of the team
I love you more than being 17

In the evening sun
In the evening sun
In the evening sun

I, too enjoy the calmness of this track. I must say, though that it is rather naive of us to automatically think that anything that Julian writes is about Juliette. He is in essence a poet, and could really be talking about anyone, or no one. Anyway, since so many of the lyriccs have to do with the summer, and about being young, like 17 (17 is an oddly magic age, I think everyone loves being 17 in some way or another) so, perhaps from the perspecive of being a 17 year old guy. When he says that he loves her more than being 17, he, in his own little way is saying that he loves her more than anything, perhaps even more than himself, and his youth, and everythig else in his life at the time, and she is his best memory about being 17. anyway, to get to my point, this is a song about relfecting on and remembering a summer fling. They might meet again, they might not, but every time he sees the sun set in the evening, perhaps on a summer's night, he thinks about this special girl and about that special summer.

i think this song is about how society is today. people either love you or hate you, but they'll bother at one time or another and stuff like that. the bridge seems to be about graduating and giving each other keepsakes to remember each other. i don't know it's just my guess

I think that "Evening Sun" is a metaphor for an affair (not necessarily a true story, but a story nonetheless). An 'evening sun' is essentially a paradox, because if you think about it, there is not really any sun in the evening apart from a sunset. In that way, I think that Julian is talking about some sort of romantic relationship that is coming to a close (perhaps a summer fling) and using the metaphor of a sunset to show how it's ending. The first stanza seems to suggest that the romance is between two teenagers, the boy talking about the girl having issues at school or with her friends, and he seems to offer her a kind of peace and kindness. When he says "go your separate way now, someday you'll come back and I'll be dreaming I was sunburned," it's pretty obvious that the 'sunburn' is extending on his metaphor, 'sunburned' meaning in the middle of the day, or in the middle of the romance/summer fling, what have you. The fact that he says "singers, they will sometimes lie," is perhaps alluding to himself (obviously, he is a singer) which could lead to a possibility that the romance was an affair of some sort.

and one other quich thing. methinks the lyric is misquoted, it should be "I like the sum, miss the summer" I think that this is a reference to the previous lyric--"I don't want to break your heart, break your heat in two halves. Keep one half, and give one half to me" and then he likes the sum of the deal. He is trying to ensure that he will forever have one half of her heart, he wants to know that a part of her will always love him, because he is pretty sure that a part of him will wlays love her. kinda sweet

This is probably the most musically advanced song I've heard Julian write. It's not necessarily my favorite...but the instrumental is just great, especially the interlude "Go your separate way now...Tell me what'd you do? Nothing? Me to." The bass, and the percussion really stand out to me.

Ok, sorry for thinking that the lyric was mis-quoted, I, too have the 'bookie' and just re-read it....I guess that it just sounds a little different, and yeah. And, I am not here to dispuet the Juliet theory--merely trying to bring form New Critical theory to the lyric, seeing as I think that Julian is one of the best lyricists out there right now, and also in many regards an example of a 21st century poet. I don't think that we need to make such blatant assumptions, and tha tmaybe we should look beyond that obvious for osmething deeper, or maybe even more interesting. I am not doubting Juliet's influence, nor aam I doubting the love that she and Julkian might have for one another---just in my English-major kind of way suggesting that we not take things at face value......

it's not about regina (definetly not, they never dated) or juliet. if you pay attention this song was written by jules and fab. fab wrote it about drew barrymore. it's about them dealing with being on the road and her back in hollywood.

They love you or they hate you, But they won't ever let you be. -- about the paparazzi (sp?)
