Sittin' up on the roof
Sneakin' a smoke by the chimney
Checkin' out the moon
And the city lights
He takes off his flannel shirt and he
Drapes it around her shoulders
He slides up behind her and holds on tight
And she says
"I don't want this night to end
Why does it have to end?"
Tomorrow she'll be rollin' down I-10
Baton Rouge, LSU
Eighteen years in her rear-view
He's got a Friday paycheck lined up, down the block
At daddy's shop
It ain't much, but it's a job
They've been dreadin' this moment all summer long
The night before
Life goes on
Ooo, a tear falls off her cheek and
Right when it hits his arm he says
"Come on, baby, let's get out of here."
They take one last drive around town
And, man, it already looks different
He bangs the wheel and says
"Life ain't fair
And this growin' up stuff man I don't know
I just don't wanna let you go."
Tomorrow she'll be rollin' down I-10
Baton Rouge, LSU
Eighteen years in her rear-view
He's got a Friday paycheck lined up, down the block
At daddy's shop
It ain't much, but it's a job
They've been dreadin' this moment all summer long
The night before
Life goes on
Yeah, that's what my mama told me
And just like those kids
I didn't wanna listen to no one
Yeah, there's nothin' you can do
There's nothin' you can say
And I know how it feels when love goes away
Tomorrow she'll be rollin' down I-10
Baton Rouge, LSU
Eighteen years in her rear-view
He's got a Friday paycheck lined up, down the block
At daddy's shop
It ain't much, but it's a job
They've been dreadin' this moment all summer long
But here it is
They don't have long
The night before
Life goes on, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Sneakin' a smoke by the chimney
Checkin' out the moon
And the city lights
He takes off his flannel shirt and he
Drapes it around her shoulders
He slides up behind her and holds on tight

I think the song is about a long time couple, about to spilt and go there seperate ways. For a personal touch, I think about me and my friends going our seperate ways following graduation, and how we didn't want to leave each other...
good point on that one, Carries_Reddest_Fan... i think you are right about it being a couple... shes goin to college while he has a job and is gonna stay there workin... in ways its like me and my boyfriend how we rarely see eachother since we graduated... we see eachother on weekends but thats it.. its hard because he doesnt live far from me... but not seein eachother that often is putting a strain on both of us... he told me just yesterday he cant take not seeing me more than once a week... but we are making it work... but this is a good song... and Carrie Underwood is my favorite singer
i love this song. i just graduated this past year, and settling into college without my best friend ever (and some other reallyy good friends from high school) has been sooo hard. i didnt think it would be as hard as it actually is. this song makes me think of leaving all my friends behind. and hearing it makes me cry almost every time! it's such a greatt song!
Aww i luv it!! Its sooo sad. I cry wen i hear it. My fav song by Carrie.
Does this remind anyone else of The Notebook?
really? all of you think it's about leaving or going away? see i had a different approach. i thought they were a couple too, but that they had just gotten pregnant.....meaning the night before and life goes on. they have 18 years in their rear view. and there is another part in the song how she said she didn't want to listen to no one. well that was my opinion
I'm from Michigan and next fall I am going to LSU. My favorite part is the Chorus because the only difference for me is it will be 21 years in my rearview. Anyone I think that has ever left home for somewhere else can relate to this and the feeling that your leaving people behind.
I just discovered this song and i fell in love. It reminds me of my lif in so many ways. I graduated high school in 2008 and i was datin ghtis guy. We had been together for 1year and 7 months, the whole summer we dreaded August because he was going away to college 4hrs away and i was stayin gin our hometown for college. We had to say goodbye the day before he left and it was the hardest thing i ever had to do. But life goes on. This song is my new favorite song its like the story of my life.
i love this song so much :) its basically just that the girl is going off to college at LSU and the guy is staying at home working at "daddy's shop" because he needs money and didnt go to college. they want to stay together but have been dreading the last night because its the night before their life goes on and they split their own seperate ways
