So tired sleeping through the day
Bloodshot eyes and sweat from my body
And I picked my head up yesterday
Found the reason of hope left inside of me

But I still believe in immortal love
And I know there's someone above

Shine down, don't take it away from me, no
And I know you know how, yeah
Shine down, just give me a chance to feel it
It's taken forever to get me off the ground

Dead silence overwhelming me
Deny takes it's toll on my sanity
And I know I've been away too long
All these years I've been hiding
I'm feeling I'm coming strong

But I still believe in immortal love
And I know there's someone that's up above
Show me a path to find my way
And give me a reason pray

Shine down, don't take it away from me, no
And I know you know how, yeah
Shine down, just give me a chance to feel it
It's taken forever to get me off the ground

Shine down, don't take it away from me, no
And I know you know how, yeah
And shine down, just give me a chance to feel it
It's taken forever to get me off the ground
Shine down
Shine down
Oh, shine down
Oh baby, yeah, yeah, yeah
Shine down
Oh, shine down
Oh, shine down
Oh baby shine down

Great Song. Great album. If you don't have it, get it. I think its about redemption. Asking for redemption from the problems he's had. Asking for light to shine down and show him the way.

I think he wrote the song in memory of a very close friend they lost a few months back while they were working on the album.

Darkprince650, thats a very plausible idea. It also could be about his relationships and how he's messed them up horribly in the past, but now has decided to come clean and find his immortal love... very pretty song, loving the new album!

Da1AndOnlyMe: Sully Erna is Wiccan, so any religious meaning to "But I still believe in immortal love/And I know there's someone above" would probably be originally referring more to an all-encompassing God and Goddess or any number of specific deities, depending on Erna's tradition, but it can also be interpreted as the Christian God if that's what floats your boat. It's one of the reasons I like this song so much.

If it IS a song with religious tones, I think the meaning overall is that when life has been rough for too long, even though the BELIEF is still there, a little sign or intervention or something to prove that the divinity of choice hasn't moved on would be appreciated.

I really love this song. I like Godsmack a lot, and I know they were influenced by Alice in Chains a lot. But is it just me, or can anyone else picture Layne Staley singing this song?

Jar of Files. I agree with that statement. I always sorta viewed Godsmack as a AIC ripp-off, but, they do write some good stuff, this song is very good and I was impressed. And before I get lynched by fans, I'm just saying there are a lot of similarities between AIC and GS,like vocals and music, lyrics, not entirely, not saying they are bad though

I could be wrong here, but I've attended a few concerts and spoke with people who knew Sully...and evidently this song is about....Shinedown. Apparently Sully started it as an inside joke about Shinedown upstaging him on tour, and jokingly saying they'd undermine his career just when he started making money (hence the chorus). He had jokingly performed a rendition as a blues song, which is where the harmonica comes into play at the beginning

Shine Down was once played right before a song by Shinedown on the radio here in Mass.
