In the far away fires
Where the hills forever burn
At the feet of our heroes
We try hard to learn
But the lesson is lost there
In the smoke and the mud
That we are one flesh, one breath, one life, one blood

I stood by the river
That ran red with shame
I stood in the killing fields
Where death had no name
I stood with my brothers
And away it flood
And we were one flesh, one breath, one life, one blood

Then I felt to the ground
Tasted ashes on my tongue
Thinking that only the dead
Are forever young

There was peace in the twilight
And for a moment among
It was a world without danger
A world without war
And I will take all your suffering
It will do any good
Cause we are one flesh, one breath, one life, one blood

i find this song great, but am i the only one who see the similarities between this song and "brothers in arms" by dire straits from 1985 ?

catchfjolla, when i heard this song in the movie i first thought, "brothers in arms," too. i think it's the haunting electric guitar in the background and the lyrics are similar as well. but it's a great song on its own.

it would be a shame to associate this song to a bunh of lowlife idiots whose only goal is a meaningless fight with other idiots... this is a song for the real soldiers, heroes who fight for a cause that connects them for life...

i don't condone hooliganism as a football fan..but the song did work really well with that scene at the end of green street hooligans..and honestly if you read these lyrics each paragraph is telling a story in different stages, until the last one being death..it absolutely fits wi the the stoy of that great movie .)

i reckon its about WWI to be honest the references like: 'killing fields' (western front), 'i stood with my brothers' (comradery) and 'the river run red' (somme river) all link up

as for greent street, among the best films of our generation, its used there to emphasise the significance of the fight, as in, for the gangs, its their WWI if u know what i mean

    hope you all agree
