Wake up, wake up, wake up,
Don't
Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up,
Ah ha
Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up,

It's naughty
Very naughty
Necrophilia
Without a care
I'm compassionate about killing her
I'd have my way with what's left of the will in her
Cosmopolitans and cocaine and an occasional pill in her
When she spoke
I saw a spark
But it was dark so
I drove her home
When she died
Sexy suicide
Sweet nothings for the Nam
You feel where I'm coming from
Have no fear
Everything's is fine
My girl parties
All the time

Did you hear what I said
With this ring I do wed
A body in my bed
She was cool when I met her
But I think I like her better
Dead

Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up
Hahahaha

The production is progressive
But the reason is retro
The cause of cold blooded murder
I named it neo-necro
I whisper in her ear
To hear an echo
Echo, co, co
I keep her
It's cheaper
I love too much to let go
We discussed over dinner how she would die
Before the day was done
So I caught her just in time to have a little fun
And you could use a little sun
So scream and holler
Run and play
Wish you could die
Another day

Come back to see this house
Done what I could to revive
My soft side survived
Man
Thought you was alright
And she was alive

Hahahahaha
Hahahahaha

Cee-Lo to MTV News: "That song is about this figment of my imagination. This woman, in her spare time, only complained about the life she wasn't living. After she picked her poison, whether it be a drink, smoke, et cetera, she becomes more bold, more outspoken, more sensual, funny, charming. All these different things."

He went on: "She realises everyone is more receptive toward her. She wants to be like that every day. So there goes your habit. So it's storytelling, not so literal. A lot of the album is true to life, but a lot is this vivid imagination I have and good clean fun."

"Sweet nothings for the numb Feel where Im coming from" and "I whispered in her ear to hear an echo"

Those two lines had me convinced he was talking about necrophilia. :/ Hmm. I like how he thinks; how he surprises people.

Hmm... I wouldn't have thought that at all. I was thinking this song was about date rape pretty much... all these mentions of how I like her better dead (unconcious) that "I caught something in her eye (most stalker types think there victims secretly love them)" and all the mentions of necrophilia giving off how creepy and disgusting date rape really is. However I can see where Cee-lo is coming from too on this one too.

    galactor...

i would suggest that he uses date rape and necrophillia as a metaphor and as a vehicle to express what ExLover was talking about

before i heard that cee-lo interview, this song gave me a nasty case of the willies. every time i hear it, i shiver a little, what with all the necrophilia and such.

It's funny to hear my friends take this so literally. They now think Cee-lo is a dead people loving weirdo. But anyway, in Shakespearian times, dieing was a metaphor for an orgasm. =3

I interpreted this song as Gnarls expressing his views on woman today. Many obsessed about image and ego are effectively 'braindead' and when he takes a young girl home, he feels as if he is having sex with a dead person.

From what I have observed in Gnarls' music is that he is always singing about deeper issues, and there are many different perceptions of his songs, but there is also a level of truth to his music.

In another song, "Its deep that you can be so shallow" -Who Cares.

These songs are linked in a way.

Ascedant- i was thinking he meant the reverse.

The girls want so bad to be a part of the party, to be alive and attractive that they have to get into drugs and shit to be alive. "I think i like her better dead"
