It's a pity that in this site there is no trace of the original composer and singer of this song: Domenico Modugno (that was italian, of course). This song is the most famous italian song in the world, but almost no one is aware of the fact that its title is NOT "Volare" but it is "Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu" (In the Blue Painted of Blue).

To Da Kool King: "Poi d'improvviso venivo dal vento rapido" means: then suddenly I was taken by the wind (that is, wind pulls him up towards the sun, making him fly)

(Spanish) I think in a dream it seemed I wouldn't return, and I painted each of my hands blue, and suddenly a fast wind carried me, and I prepared to fly in the infinite sky,

I flew, oh oh, I sang, oh oh oh oh, (Italian) In the blue (sky), painted in blue, happy to be slow, (This could mean a lot of things)

(Spanish) and flying, happily flying, I found myself taller, taller than the sun, While the world slowly moved away from me, A sweet music played just for me.

I flew, oh oh I sang, oh oh oh oh (Italian) In the blue, painted in blue, happy to be slow

    (Spanish)

I think in a dream it seemed i wouldn't return, And i painted each of my hands blue, And suddenly a fast wind carried me, and I did fly in the infinite sky

I flew, oh oh, I sang, oh oh oh oh, (Italian)In the blue, painted in blue Happy to be slow

I flew, oh oh, I sang, oh oh oh oh, (Italian) in the blue, painted in blue, Happy to be slow

    (Spanish)

I think in a dream it seemed i wouldn't return, And I painted my hands blue, and suddenly a fast wind carried me, and i did fly in the infinite sky

I flew, oh oh, I sang, oh oh oh oh, (Italian) In the blue, painted in blue, happy to be slow,

In the blue, painted in blue, happy to be slow (x3) in the blue, painted in blue.

i have the dean martin version with italian parts (i seem to prefer this version), and it goes a little like this:

Volare, oh oh Cantare, oh oh oh oh Let's fly way up to the clouds Away from the maddening crowds We can sing in the glow of a star that I know of Where lovers enjoy peace of mind Let us leave the confusion and all disillusion behind Just like birds of a feather, a rainbow together we'll find

Volare, oh oh E cantare, oh oh oh oh No wonder my happy heart sings Your love has given me wings

Penso che un sogno cosi non ritorni mai piu Mi dipingevo le mani e la faccia di blu Poi d'improvviso venivo dal vento rapido E incominciavo a volare nel cielo infinito (i think that a dream will not ever return i painted my hands and face a dark blue [*] then through improvisation i came upon a rapid wind and i began to fly in the infinite sky)

Volare, oh oh E cantare, oh oh oh oh Nel blu, dipinto di blu Felice di stare lassu E volavo, volavo felice piu in alto del sole ed ancora piu su Mentre il mondo pian piano spariva lontano laggiu Una musica dolce suonava soltanto per me (and flying, happily flying, I found myself taller, taller than the sun, While the world slowly moved away from me, A sweet music played just for me.)

Volare, oh oh E cantare, oh oh oh oh No wonder my happy heart sings Your love has given me wings Nel blu, dipinto di blu Felice di stare lassu (In the blue, painted in blue, happy to be slow)

" felice di stare lassu' "

This doesn't mean happy to be slow. It means "happy to be/stay up there/in heaven."

So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new. This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus. Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness". The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1. All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy. And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns) There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
