Change your heart
Look around you
Change your heart
It will astound you
I need your lovin'
Like the sunshine

Everybody's gotta learn sometime
Everybody's gotta learn sometime
Everybody's gotta learn sometime

Change your heart
Look around you
Change your heart
It Will astound you
I need your lovin'
Like the sunshine

Everybody's gotta learn sometime
Everybody's gotta learn sometime
Everybody's gotta learn sometime

I need your lovin'
Like the sunshine

Everybody's gotta learn sometime
Everybody's gotta learn sometime
Everybody's gotta learn sometime

Everybody's gotta learn sometime
Everybody's gotta learn sometime
Everybody's gotta learn sometime

THIS SONG IS SO MUCH MORE THAN ABOUT TWO PEOPLE IN A RELATIONSHIP!!!!

    This song is about EVERYTHING!

    ALL LIFE.

    THE UNIVERSE.

    and EVERYTHING.

    ALL OF US.

Living here together on this tiny freakin planet. All packed in.

This song holds a special place inside me too. I watched this movie in bed on a laptop with my girlfriend of 3 years sleeping next to me... in a relationship plagued with disastrous problems and conflict. Intense passion. The end of this movie hit me so hard I also began uncontrollably sobbing when this song came on, and I don't usually cry during movies.

The lessons of the movie are VERY true, and we should all really be more aware of the deeper meaning of this, and when something hurts, take a step back out of yourself and look at your situation from an outside perspective, and with a little time, everything will become clear... and in the bigger picture, everything's not too bad... because we LEARN from ours, AND OTHERS mistakes.

We are all connected. All of us. Everything.

We are here to learn from each other, and grow. Learn as much as you can. We don't have much time.

We need to be good to each other, and do what makes sense, in the big picture.

I feel like some of you commenting on here just don't quite get it.... :(

but hey, Everybodys gotta learn sometime.

    ;)

I love this song. it makes me cry. Also because it was in eternal sunshine and that movie brings out so many emotions in me. It's such a beautiful yet simple song.

I broke into tears at the end of "Eternal Sunshine" when this song played over the beach scene and end credits. It's one of THE most emotional songs I have ever heard! In many ways I find this cover version by Beck, better than the Original. It leaves me heartbroken every time I hear it.

    My Interpretation

To me, this song covers so many bases that have me humming the main keyboard riff. This song is about relationships, there's not a doubt about it, but it isn't just about the relationship between a boyfriend and a girlfriend.

This song hit me hardest when me and my good friend for many years started to drift apart. We just talked less and less, not because we hated eachother, but because we began going in our own directions.

The lyrics work so well with the horrible and sad situation. "Change your heart, look around you" and "change your heart, it will astound you" almost seem like a wake up call to change your mood/stop thinking about how your relationship went south so that you can carry on with your life.

But it's the titular line "everybody's gotta learn sometimes" is the one with the most emotional depth. Every human that has lived on this planet has experienced an event that you never wanted to happen, but had no control over. Whether it be a break up or two friends parting ways, the feeling of emptiness after something you thought would last forever is a terrible feeling. But it's unavoidable. Just like the song states, everybody's gotta learn sometimes...

Plus, the use of the song in the end scene of Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind makes the song all the more memorable, just saying.

I didn't know this was a cover at first, until I found the Korgis version under the name Donna Summer. It's a great song, though I do think I prefer the Beck version.

It's such a beautiful but kind of down and depressing song. Its one of those songs that puts you in kind of a tranquil mood. I really dig it, and the movie I first heard it in is a beautiful piece of film.

This song is so simple and yet the way it was sung by Beck was beautiful. I discovered it on the Etneral Sunshine of a Spotless Mind soundtrack, the movie was so great, words cannot describe it.. I've been obsessing over it. Anyway, onto the song, I think it's just speaking of changing your outlook, heart, opinion on something and accepting the "important" thing because it says, "I need your loving, like the sunshine" which means that whatever you need to change your heart on is totally significant and you need it to survive [similie: like the sunshine] because in the end, if you don't get it the first time you will understand it eventually because, "Everybody's gotta learn sometime"

A nice cover, Beck changed the pace and the feel and I think it fits the mood of this INCREDIBLE movie very well. I especially love the first notes, it reminds of the last scene of the movie very vividly.

i completely agree with Dannysheaven. it's so mature. he's talking straught up, exactly how he feels. no bull shit, no crap. cut it out.

he's telling this person exactly what he feels, & wants.

i love how upfront & emontional this song is. it's just so sad, but amazing.

Wow, I'm the first to comment on this beautiful song from the equally beautiful film "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." Slow, bass-heavy, and whimsical, much like a dream...
