No Doubling Back Lyrics
as we shifted through this twisted abandon
i would like to think that you will know your way
we have dodged the ropes of rain
well the cats and dogs well they love to play
on the handsome fella with umbrella
who once saved you your day
from the inside after you drive
because i wanna stay wet for a little bit longer
that's why
while i stand here and think it up
but it's a little too early to bury the worries
til this wish is my command
is gonna state the obvious
and i wonder if you already know
that i gotta let you go
i guess i ain't the great romantic
and i'm not doubling back now
no doubling back
doubling back now
let me stop to lock the top
for fear of it falling hard
by the eyes were ears and the arms are
scars of where the war was waged on words that we heard as a joke
how did it drown our love
when it rains it's sure to pour
but when i look in your eyes
i fear i won't see surprise
that i'm not doubling back cause
i wonder, wonder which one of us
is gonna state the obvious
and then i wonder if you already know
that i gotta let you go
i guess i ain't the great romantic
and i'm not doubling back now
no doubling back now
doubling back now
no doubling back now
doubling back now
no doubling back now
doubling back now
no doubling back now
doubling back now
no doubling back now
doubling back now
no doubling back now
no turning around now
no going back now
no
a breakup song between a couple.... they both know that it's about to happen but neither one of them is brave enough tell the other person that he/she doesn't wanna see him/her anymore... song is nice either upbeat or slow version (i have 4 versions =D )
Even though its really cheerful, its about the accpetance of the distance between him and his lover and that breaking up is inevitable. Its actually a pretty tragic song.
The version on the live album is spectacular. Only breakup song i've ever heard that can put me in a good mood.
I've heard another, earlier version thats a lot more toned down. Its definitly better when its upbeat.
the imagery of this song is great. All of us are familiar with that awkward break up moment. in my mind, i see them standing outside her house with his hands in his pockets with and unbearable awkward silence. it hurts me to hear this song sometimes! it's all too familiar. lol
It's about a man and his car. A relationship that can also serve as a metaphor for a relationship between a man and a woman. In this song, the singer has just sold/ is about to sell his convertible because he just realized it rains too much where he lives and having a convertible just doesn't make sense. Images of water is consistantly used to signal trouble/the end of the relationship but the car imagery is there too "lock the top". The use of a convertible is indeed romantic as convertibles are associated with care free summer days (or the height of the relationship) however when fall and winter come around (perhaps signifying older age/maturity) a convertible is no longer practical. Just how when we are younger our relationships tended to be carefree but as we grow older and start looking for 'marriage' type qualities in our significant others the types of people we date tend to change.
the live version of this song is great
jason says on tonight not again that this song is about when you know you're going to break up with someone and just haven't told them yet
