Nuguns Lyrics

And the little boy started...
Into the eyes of the night...
Button collects price of his time.
Little girl glared...
Sheets of denial...
The bullet connects to the price of her crime!

What have we said?
Wasn't it their bed?
What of presence?
Haven't we paid penance
To the Nüguns?

Now the little boy sees...
Through the eyes of delight...
Levers erect note of his rhyme.
Little girl bled...
Sheets of the night...
The lovers connect to the price of his dime!

What have we said?
Wasn't it their bed?
What of presence?
Haven't we paid penance
To the Nüguns?
To the Nüguns?

To the old gods and moved on,
To the old gods and moved on,
To the old gods and moved on,
To the new guns, to the new guns.

What have we said?
Wasn't it their bed?
What of presence?
Haven't we paid penance?

What have we said?
Wasn't it their bed?
What of presence?
Haven't we paid penance
To the Nüguns?
To the Nüguns?
To you?

It is easily recognizable that this song has some sexual elements, but I think the focus of the song has more to do with violence than sex. This violence being the murder of a prostitute. The lyric which leads this to this conclusion is "Lovers connect at the price of his dime". Which infers tht she is receiving payment for sex. In the early part of the song the lyric "Bullet connects to the price of her crime" can be interpreted to mean that she was killed for her "crime" which is being a prostitute. The killer referred to as the "lil boy" in the song kills her for this reason. Finally it speaks of the girl bleeding to death in the bed.

the prostitute thing is probly relevant, but blatantly not the real meaning of the song. the murder of the prostiute thing is bollocks, no offence, this song is obviously bout a wider issue. 'havnt we paid penance 2 the old gods and moved on 2 the new guns'? obviously focusing on a wider, global issue of violence, as kmk_natasha said.

Ok this song is obviously about prostitution. Let see how many lines can relate to that...

Button collects price of his time, The bullet connects to the price of her crime, The lovers connect to the price of his dime, Levers erect note of his rhyme, Little girl bled, Sheets of the night,

I could go on and on. The meaning is obvious foolz

Very true, though I think it's also an allegorical reference to wider political corruption etc, implying the government "prostitutes" the American military and funds etc to the highest bidder, and equally "rapes" those it's able to exploit. I know it sounds far fetched, but almost every single song Serj Tankian has written refers to war, politics or some political-based problem in the world (apart from songs of loss, such as Streamline).

Does anyone know what the word Nuguns mean in armeanian? it might prove someone's point about the meaning of the song. But it might just be that they messed with the spelling of 'new guns', and put those two dots overe the first 'u' to make it look good.

@karatekid2007 it means YOUR MOM!

@karatekid2007 The word "Nuguns" doesn't mean anything in Armenian. I don't think that this song has any connection to Serj's homeland, Nuguns just is a phrase for "new guns".

About how money is spent on weapons and bombs for war when it could be spent on much better things. People are starving, seriously ill, and need help and war is wrong and nothing good comes out of it. It was released at a time when America was going through conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Before the US invaded Iraq, there were massive worldwide protests. The video was real footage of these protests, with people reciting the words to the song and voicing their opinions.

Basically a protest song.

Nuguns has one of the most amazing solos to date! Very Middle Eastern-sounding. I agree that this song could have a more broader range of subject than just prostitution.
