i totally disagree with the idea that this song is about christianity. that sort of seems like a stretch. to get religion out of this song i think you need to seriously overanalyze.
this song definitely seems like it's about stephan getting over his breakup, or whatever other hard times he was facing then. but no matter the cause, he was hurt and life seemed to lose it's luster. it was like nothing would ever get better and everyone looked at him differently because of his depressed behavior. but soon "another life" came along, and with time he was willing to accept this new life. he's willing to start over when he "sees [her] again" and willing to start living again, even though he recognized that there will always be a "sweeter pain." i just interpret this as meaning that you can always start new, but you will always get hurt again. you just have to be willing to accept that and make peace with it. he has "a will to burn." maybe this means that he's willing to face pain again, or maybe it just relates to the old "i live my life like burning man" (burning man from 3eb's self-titled) concept that to live is to burn. either way it makes sense to me. i just think this song is really uplifting even though it faces pain head-on. pain is a part of life, but life still goes on. and maybe this cycle is completely pointless, "but what's so wrong with that?" this song is realistic and doesn't try to lie to anyone. it's a no bullshit way of viewing things and i completely agree with it. i love this song so much, it helps me when i'm down. starting life up again, even when you know that pain will be part of it, is courageous.

I love this song! is really great since the first note to the last chord. 3eb is the most kick ass band on earth! they just rock! stephan's way of writing is so natural... this song is like being missundertsood, because you are different and you prefer to lock yourself in your world than have to change. "a stranger to the people I know" is like when you grew apart from your friends, and you stop knowing them and so do them. It also talks about passing through hard times at the point we think life has become pointless. I like the line of "Time goes by and I realice that I'm alright, you thought nothing will be the same but life comes round again" is basically saying that sometimes the dark days blinds us and we can't see the light... but sooner or latter something will begin to glow and everything will be normal again. The chorus I believe is saying this life is so twisting and weird, that it changes with the time so is like living many lives in one life. "To see you again is like another life, i feel the whole thing happen" is my favorite line! describing how by just watchin a person or hearing a song you have forgotten your mind transports you imediatly to other memories, to other time. I LOVE 3EB!! STEPHEN IS SOOOOOO HOT!
I think this song has to be the most lyrically clever song that Stephan has written yet. So many good cliche's put to use to have meaning on a lot of different leves. Sounds good too, great song.

On an interesting note, the song was originally written with "Butterfly" in place of "Another Life."
To me, He's lost someone and can't live without her. He's changed, his friends don't recongnize him anymore, he can't get peace, he wanders the places he used to ...with her. All the time, he refuses to let go, he burns to be with her, carries her memory with him all the time, its like he's living another life.
My fav line is either "I'm grateful to whistle past the grave yard gate" or "and life is pointless but what's so wrong with that?"
Amazing song it helped me through some hard times to me its like liveing a double life "a stranger to the people I know" i think by that he means like your not your real self around your friends your just trying to fit in and that makes u a stranger. i love this song and this band good shit

Seems to be a very personal song. I always thought it was about the period of time after his break up with Charlize Theron. He was just really bummed and a lot of things lost a lot of meaning, but eventually he turned it around and this is basically his start at a second life "another life".
