Come on Home Lyrics
In a place that I can't live
I kinda find I like a life
This lonely
It rips and pierces me
In places i cant see
I love the rip of nerves
The rip that wakes me
I love dissatisfied
I love to feel there's always more that I need
So come on home
So come on - home home
I'm where i want to be
Come on we're chasing
Everything we've ever wanted
Replace you easily
Replace pathetically
I flirt with every flighty thing
That falls my way
But how I needed you
When I needed you
Let's not forget
We are so strong
So bloody strong
So come on home
So come on - home, home
Upon your perfect skin
Falls and you draw back again
Falls and this is how I felt
And I cannot forget
And I cannot forget
So come on home
But don't forget to leave

He doesn't know how to be happy. He wouldn't know how to react if everything in his life was perfect--if the perfect girl loved him as much as he loved her, he wouldn't know what to do.
Every once in a while, when he thinks that he's lost her completely, he'll want--need--her back. He'll admit, again, that he's in love with her. However, when she does come back, he doesn't know what to do and pushes her away again.
He's happier being unhappy.
At least, that's my take on this song.
i wish i could express how FUCKING ridiculous it is that you say that..that's my exact interpretation of the song and also my exact situation. sigh. :/

I'd been listening to this song for a long time, but never really thought about what its meaning might be until I realized that this is also my situation. This song means so much more to me now and I'm not even entirely sure that this is the intended meaning.

this song is about two people in love who part because of other reasons than the end of the relationship. this is how I feel all the time now, as my ex girlfriend went home after college and we separated. However she just broke my heart and so this song fits even more, the "who am I trying to kid" thing really works. Sometimes it's ironic how music will fit into life. I also picked a fight once iwth one of the franz ferdinand members in a bloc party concert--he was being a jerk and was in the crowd, right behind me.
so I hated them. how ironic right

This is a great song! It seems like such a fitting last song to an awesome CD. So whenever I hear this song I think of a guy and girl who were together at one point, but not anymore and now he thinks about her all the time. He likes being alone because he likes his heart to ache and he feels nervous whenever he sees her. Almost like he kinda likes the feeling of melancholy longing. Both people are in similar situations in life and both are ambitious people that get what they want. He talks about getting any girl he wants but he’s not really satisfied because no one can be “her". He knows they both want each other however neither can say it because both have willpower ie both are so strong. When he does see her he thinks she’s beautiful but the night ends and he always ends up thinking about her. In the last lines like he wants her to come home to him, but she must actually physically leave her house to come to him. Basically it sounds like both like each other but not so much as they like the head games or the “do they, don’t they?” kind of feeling. Ultimately he wants her to be the first to say how she feels.

I think it's about leaving the person you love so you can both fufill your dreams, but keeping your love alive so that when it's possible you can be together again. The last lines:
"So come on home But don't forget to leave"
seem -to me- to indicate that it's really important to the narrator that his lover does what they need to do, and recognises that before they can be together again they need to be apart.

the end? what? maybe that's the british version or somethin....mine ends with 40'.
anyways, this song's really cool and it's so cute when he says "so come on home" because it's all soft and loving sounding. if you've ever seen "a nightmare before christmas" there's this phrase that sound similar to "and i cannot forget"

I think this song is actually about someone trying to convince himself he's better off without his ex. He says, for example, that he's dissatisfied which is usually a negative feeling; then he goes on to try and defend this as a good thing.
It's almost a, "who are you trying to convince?" song.

Ultimately my favorite song.
He's trying to convince himself that he'll be better off alone, but he yo-yos back in forth between "I don't need you" and "I do need you".
I agree with Eternie about the "who are you trying to convince?" He seems to be convincing himself that he doesn't need her, but he keeps going back to the initial feelings.
He's trying to say, we're better off now by: "You're where you want to be I'm where i want to be Come on we're chasing Everything we've ever wanted Replace you easily Replace pathetically I flirt with every flighty thing That falls my way" But then he immediately goes back to: "But how I needed you When I needed you Let's not forget We are so strong So bloody strong!" as if to beg and say, "but we has so much going for us"
An amazing song. Three cheers...it's addictive music in the beginning hooked me on it, and it really captivates many of my emotions in the first first. Incredible.
"Although my lover lives In a place that I can't live I kinda find I like a life This lonely It rips and pierces me In places i cant see I love the rip of nerves The rip that wakes me So I'm dissatisfied I love dissatisfied I love to feel there's always more that I need ..."

Hey, um, a correction or two... (:
Although my lover lives in a place that I can't live I kind of find I like a life this lonely It rips and pierces me, in places I can't see I love the rip of nerves, the rip that wakes me
So I'm dissatisfied, I love dissatisfied I love to feel there's always more that I need
So come on home So come on home So come home
You're where you want to be, I'm where I want to be Come on we're chasing everything we've ever wanted Replace you easily, replace pathetically I flirt with every flighty thing that falls my way
But how I needed you, when I needed you Let's not forget we are so strong, so bloody strong
Come on home So come on home So come home
Blue light falls upon your perfect skin Falls, and you draw back again Falls, and this is how I fell And I can not forget this And I can not forget this
Come on home So come on home But don't forget to leave...
as for meaning...do u think alex was thinking about eleanor when he wrote this? (they're both touring all over the place)

i think it's about this guy whose ex, friend, or someone he just had a fling with lives too far away for a relationship and he enjoys the heartache of separation because he uses it as a safety-net or an excuse to avoid pursuing other things and protect himself from repeated failure, hence the line: "so come on home, but don't forget to leave".

Replace you easily Replace pathetically
thats the strongest line i think, saying first how easily the girl was replaced, but then revealing that it is only because he sinks to a new low to go about replacing her. one of their best songs, surprised how few comments there are
