elton and bernie considered this their 'darkest period' and hence the album title "Blue Moves". Bernie was going through his divorce from his first wife....... the excesses of the 'do no wrong' years had begun to take their toll on elton and taupin and this album reflects that more than any other, lyrically and musically
One of the greatest EJ songs. The melody is wonderful and the lyrics is great. I like this types of songs (ballads) with no happy ending. I feel something special in this time.
This song is so simple but yet so moving. It has the most beautiful melody and is in my opinion the best elton song there is. The song is about a relationship that is falling apart, the lines "do we have to fight again" reflects it. It's all about one persons point of view of the way he/she wants his/her lover to compromise and not be so mean. The person can see a big arguement (storm) coming 9 times out of 10. He/ she wants to settle down (turn out the light) but the other still wants to carry grudges. This song is a masterpiece and deserved an award.
