There's definitely a theme of conquering one's fear of death through fulfilment in life.
I think there may even be a suggestion of suicide.

Red is the blood of the new Aeon, and gray is the old Aeon. Toyah uses the same allusion in Blue Meanings. "The young, the old, The red, the grey, Wars cannot alter What’s here to stay."

In the video clip we can see many images of Spanish Republica. The Flag, well entered the song, first appears Spanish flag colors "red and yellow" but later is added the "purple" one, which make the 3 colours of the spanish republic flag. There are also images tipical images which are simbols of the spanish republica. I might agree with ndoc: "I think I could be about fighting (and maybe dying) for what you love and believe in. I think its about violent love and abuse, but not necessarily bad abuse, mutual abuse maybe?

Incredible groowe - wow the thundering bass and his haunting voice (it was recorded at Hansa in Berlin, like "Heroes" and U2's "Achtung Baby" - recognize the huge echo). Much of the power of this song derives from the distance between different registers in the music: looow, vibrant bdrums nd bass vs the ringing siren-like synth and the vocals. I remember when this appeared in the mid-eighties, it catches the feeling of being very small in a distant and dangerous world where you can't trust any values or any people.
I heard this song while dancing in a goth club in the early 90s and every time I hear it, I'm reminded me of that moment. It's just a gorgeous song that always moves my soul.
Only recently did I hear this for the first time. Great song! I get the death vibe from it as well.
